Default July 4th - anybody doing anything nice?

Everything is cancelled here in Austin. All the parks closed down, even the downtown lake. :-(
Austin Culture Map sent out an email with "5 things to do in Austin this July 4th Weekend" Gosh, I was so excited when I saw that.... however it included:
"watch the fireworks from the comfort of your own armchair"
"listen to Willie Nelson giving a live virtual concert"
etc, etc....
looks like a book/pool/floaty chair in my backyard for me.

So come on, let me live vicariously - is anyone doing anything nice?

Our big display at the Penn State Beaver Stadium has been replaced by 4 simultaneous displays around the town State College, PA - 4th Fest Fireworks to Light Up All Corners of State College -

We will be grilling burgers and sausages on Sunday evening and having a couple of friends over for socially distanced eating and drinking by our back yard firepit, while the fireflies and mosquitoes play.....

I'll probably be DIYing and doing yard work, because what's more American than working all the hours God sends?

Mrs P is going to be cooking ribs, but we are too far out of town, and too far back in the woods to be able see any fireworks. We have been dining on the porch recently, so we may just enjoy watching the bluebirds and cardinals digging for grubs in our lawn, the humming birds feeding from the feeders we have set up, and the bats catching bugs as the sun sets.

Nope, but then its not a holiday in Canada. Canada Day was pretty much nothing in my part of Canada though, cold, rainy weather (coldest July 1st in 50 years only hitting 58.6F, normal July 1st is around 72F) and that trend has continued. No fireworks, none of the usual events, pretty much the least fun Canada Day in the 15 years I have been here.

Hopefully some of of you are having some sort of summer weather for the weekend and can at least enjoy some outdoor time.

Nope.

The two of us are grilling in the yard and having a couple of drinks tomorrow, then we have reservations to go and have a social distance hike in a far-flung state park with another couple on Sunday.

We'll see how we actually feel about the hike once we get there - there's supposedly strict capacity limits at the park, but if there's too many people around for my liking then we'll be turning straight back round again.

We went to look for a new car for the Ms today. That was a bust. Is it me or have car salesman got less polite then previously over the last few years?

I don't enjoy being dic*ed around.

Probably the same thing in the morning tomorrow. No plans other than that.

All beach car parks have just been closed in San Diego county and we are back to just swimming, walking and no congregating..... will be interesting to see how this pans out tomorrow. Have a far flung hike, well away from the beach, in mind.

Beaches are open here. I'm going to be working from home as usual. Just got word from the boss at least 4 hours ot at least one Saturday a month is mandatory. I will take all I can get while it lasts.
Actually I wonder if I can work from the beach

The in-laws are coming over for a pool party. Not seen them in months (they only live 45 minutes away). I have just began a 16 hour brisket smoke so that will be the main and they are bringing the sides. The weatherman is calling for mid 90s tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

I gave up trying to reason with car salesmen and just used no-bullshit Carmax to get the job done.

I’m in quarantine so will be obeying my court order. (I haven’t actually read it, but I can more or less guess what it says.) Hamberder on the barbie, and a nice bottle of FRENCH red wine. I believe US independence was mostly about avoiding paying tax, so I’ll be delaying my tax prep by at least one more day.

I’ll be moving forward with my Japanese knotweed eradication, 8am till 10, then it’ll be too hot to work.
