Depends on how she has coverage. If from her employer, it normally (although there are always exceptions) when first married and/or when the period of adding and/or deleting coverage comes into affect. Some companies want a social security number, although others do not. She would have to fight this if it is reason for denial of covering you. Also they might not cover you while you are in a foreign country.
Your wife is the one that will have to ask either her employer or the insurance company directly for the accurate answer.

Rete is correct. And, from what you've posted previously, I believe the normal period allowed for adding a spouse after marriage through an employer has passed. So, when your wife's company has what's called "open enrollment" again (usually annually), she can add you then. That is what I did for my husband. At our company, open enrollment is every November. So, I added him then and his coverage was effective Jan 1, 2004.
By the way, insurance is not mandatory. It is, however, good proof that you are co-mingling your lives and finances. On the other hand, being added to an insurance policy doesn't guarantee one a visa.

It should also be noted, that if you are adding a spouse to your
employer's coverage, do it as soon as possible. There may be a deadline
of 30 days or so of one of these special events that permit changing
your current enrollment.

Re: INSURANCE
In my case my insurance allows you to make an amendment within 30 days of a qualifying event (marriage). It has a 20% copay and you have to file to get reimbursed. They used my wife's cedula number as identification.
Insurance companies vary in their dealings with out of country spouses. your wife needs to do the homework on this one.
Good Luck.

Re: INSURANCE
how did it go with athens? were you able to get your application reconsidered/"un-denied"?

Re: INSURANCE
I was told by my employer that I will be able to add my husband to my insurance once I provide a copy of his passport with the entry stamp. It doesn't have to be during open enrollment, nor within 30 days of getting married.
I heard the term 'major life change' thrown around, so I guess that applies to having your spouse finally living with you

Re: INSURANCE
Some...mine for example, term it a "qualifying event" marriage death divorce...etc. However, beware some also have thirty day windows around qualifying events. Mine is during open enrollment or within thirty days of a qualifying event.
Good Luck,

Re: INSURANCE
My Insurance (or work) had the 30 day within a life changing event rule also. Some of the smaller companies are probably not as strict. Larger companies love rules and regulations.
