So the current track predicted by the National Hurricane Center is that Matthew turns right when it gets to Wilmington and turns right, then loops back and heads back to the Bahamas.

Where will it go next? Loop back up the Atlantic coast, or cut across Florida and into the Gulf?

What happens if Matthew runs into Nicole? Can hurricanes merge?

I heard that is predicted to happen. I am not sure what the consequences would be - I would guess disruption - they would disipate a lot of energy and become "disorganized", but whatever the outcome is, we might be about to find out.

[Seriously?!?!]

Is that what's coming?

Blue sky, nearly T shirt weather here, out cutting wood, most of the snow has melted.

Time to go and give my chain a sharpen.

I am not sure what it is like further east in NC, nor how bad it has got in Charleston and SC yet, but chez Pulaski it is raining heavily. It is only what would be described as "heavy rain" in Britain, it is a long way from torrential. The forecast is for rain until late afternoon, around 2"-3".

There is a breeze moving the tree tops, but it isn't what I would call "windy".

Thanks for keeping us update, I was wondering how you were doing.

MSM have moved on to Trump and his latest misbehaviour, so I sort of assumed things were not too bad.

Oooh, Clinton emails and Wall St speeches! Fun never ends.

It will in about five weeks! ..... Then a few months later rumours about candidates for 2020 will start. :(

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujiwhara_effect

Its called the Fujiwhara Effect.
Rare but certainly not unknown. Generally the smaller system will orbit around the larger one until it becomes absorbed into it. Whether the system then survives depends the the usual critieria for hurricane/cyclone survival -sea temperatures, wind shear likelihood, etc.

That is what we are expected to get today, but no hurricane, just a heavy winter storm, although those do at times bring some hurricane force winds, but the wind today is mild.

I hope everyone south and east of US is OK?

It rained all day Saturday here, tailing off after 10pm. I am not sure how much rain we had, but I doubt it was even as much as 2".

We never got much more than a breeze and a few gusty spells.

We lost one tree, a pine that had died and escaped my notice, it was about 30ft tall and not much thicker than my bicep.

Just when I thought the storm had passed and we'd got off lightly, I discovered this evening that my in-laws have lost power (they live in NC near the coast) and are coming to stay.

I think general feeling around Charleston/Mt Pleasant is that we all got off more lightly than expected. A lot due to timing of Matthew vs tides. A few trees down and power outages but could have been a lot worse.

We spent the night/day at a friend's house a couple of miles away after i got nervous about several pine trees next to the house. All was fine though, spent yesterday clearing up, retrieving the boat (lost an anchor, gained a crabpot!) and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Glad you have got your family around you at this time, Pulaski :D

Good to hear that you guys have come through unscathed. This is one time when I was glad to be 200 miles from the GA coast.
