That would have been amazing, hurricane flying. Many times over the years I've wished that I'd studied meteorology rather than just stumbling into emergency management at a late stage.

Thanks.. It was and I can still look at a radar image and match or beat the presenters here...
My major was Agriculture so the weather seemed a good minor... I did also take a lot of business courses also.. All 3 go hand in hand...

Just heard from one of our contract managers in the Asheville area, he’s a mess. Moved his family to Charlotte, his mother in law and brother in law both had their homes wash away. He got together with a few people he knew and went round nearby properties with bulldozers, etc trying to help out. His head’s messed up with what he’s seen, kids running round naked looking for their parents, bodies strewn about, said it’s like a war zone up there.
Keep them in mind up there because when Milton blows in it’ll suck away the media attention and people up there will be mostly forgotten about.

It must be pretty awful. Reminds me of when New Orleans flooded, and for just how long all the low-income neighbourhoods were seemingly ignored and forgotten.

There were family's from New Orleans in all the stadiums and schools in Houston and surrounding areas for days until temporary accommodation could be found. I was volunteering as an advocate at the time trying to help some of the kids who needed help. It was a traumatic experience for them all.

And then after that horrific hit from Katrina the government at the time panicked about the next big one a few weeks later, hurricane Rita and mandatory evacuation of Texas and Louisiana caused more deaths on the road than the actual hurricane caused. It was absolute chaos.

There were quite a few lessons learned after these two storms.

Between BP - which I still boycott - and Katrina; New Orleans has had a bad time.... Now it is a place were you have to carry a gun to protect yourself. It has not really recovered...
Now rents are so expensive it is ridiculously hurting the locals...
Sad for such a grand city and good people...

Speaking from Tampa Bay at4.45am Tuesday, there is nothing happening. But a cat 5 is Forcast in the next 36 hours. Luckily I am in a non Evac zone elevation about 50 feet. I expect wind over 100mph and a foot of rain but hopefully nothing fatal! I hope the skyway bridge survives.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, RICH. Sis is in Ft. Myers and riding out Milton. Her hurricane shutters are already in place, water and non-perishable foods stock piled. Like you, they are not in an evac zone.

I don’t think I’ve seen anything in the British media about any British people who found themselves stuck in FL as a result of the current situation (tourists, vacationers, I mean.)

Given that hurricanes aren't a new phenomenon, I can only assume that the underlying idiots' ancestors were the ones burning "witches" in times gone by.
