Housing Advise, can someone help me....

Default Housing Advise, can someone help me....

Back in 2006 my mother rented a flat were i was living with her, after 2 years my mother went back to portugal i stayed at the property, because the rent was to high i have triyed to ask her to come to london to terminate the contract but she never did so i decided to leave the property, i didnt provide the landlord a month in advance, the contract is not in my name, now the landlord is saying that is going to take me to court because i own him 1 month rent but he still have got 1 month deposit left by the original tenants, can he take me to court? what should i do?

Where is the property Portugal or London?

I'll move your post into The Moving Back To The UK forum. I'm sorry but I don't know if anyone will be able to help you. There are probably other forums out there that will be able to answer your questions better than a British Expats forum.

I wouldn't think he could sue you as you have nothing in your name but i'm not a lawyer so don't take my word for it! There is a forum called the 'Consumer Action Group", forum that would be able to help you out with that stuff if there's no one on here! Here's the link

He would be claiming under breach of contract. There was no written contract so he would try to imply a contract. If you had been paying rent then you were acting as if you were in a contract and so he could claim compensation.

Notwithstanding that - tell him to get lost and apologise to your mum for losing her deposit.
