gargle with salt water solution.
lots of wine.

Drink a sizeable amount of Scotch. It won't do anything for the throat, but, after a while you just won't care about it

Hot water...honey and lemon...could add a drop of whiskey or brandy. Cepocol lozenges.

An old wives remedy is a smelly sock around the throat...never tried that.

Thanks - we'll see how desperate I get. I don't know about the sock, but I do have a labrador retriever sitting on my lap that could probably use a bath. Does that count?

Just finished my tea, maybe I'll try the honey and lemon ... seems less scary than other alternatives.
