I have to say, I thought the same thing.

Still it IS good to have a man with some knowledge of these things,

Talbots is another good place-website, maybe a store near you? Simple, classy dress that my matron of honor bought for DH and my wedding on sale at Talbots.

Thanks Cindy

A friend of mine found this site for me, so I'm going to try them too.

They should do. We went to a wedding a couple of years ago and I got a lovely lilac suit at Stein Mart. I've only worn it the once but still have it hanging in my closest because I can't part with it. It's so cute. Just waiting for another wedding invite so I can wear it

Do any stores have personal shopper type people? Can anyone recommend a store for me to go to?

I've tried Dillards and Macys in the past, but could do with advice from anyone in the know.

PS. I hate clothes shopping, so if I can go in, try on and run, I'd be happy!
Don't know about Texas but the weddings I have been to in the NE the woman have been dressed in evening gowns...mostly black or dark colours with sequins/crystals/beads etc. It is also popular to dress the bridesmaids in dark colours...even black.

The wedding is in the UK JG, so evening gowns, black and/or dark colours with sequins etc., won't look right! I don't want to be mistaken for an aging Goth!

In that case I would wait and buy something in the UK if you have time before the wedding. There again I can never buy enough clothes when I'm in the UK...or have enough suitcases to bring them back.

I'd rather not leave it to the last minute if I'm honest. We're going to be so busy when we first arrive, with only a couple of days to spare where we'll no doubt end up visiting, so dress / outfit shopping isn't on the agenda.

Besides, it'll be nice having something I know no-one else will have!

You could always try Coldwater Creek, you can shop on line there and they'll send you coupons to use as well...they have some really nice things, not bad prices in their sales and if you do go into one of their shops, they like to wiat on you hand and foot...

Wear what most American women (not the bride) wear at weddings. A pair of high waisted 80's style jeans (you know the style thats soooo out of fashion and makes your arse look even bigger) with an old pair of sneakers with a fresh coat of whitewash over them and some new extra long laces (well you have to make an effort right?), An XXXXXL Disney T Shirt and have you hair looking all nice and "flicked" at the top and sides but like you just got out of bed at the back of your head. Drink beer by the bottle and feel free to fart as and when the need arises.

You'll fit right in and be almost invisible.

At the wedding in the UK?

That just was not up to your usual standards, R-man.

Why would she dress like an American to fit in at a UK wedding?

Aldo Accessories is a good place to get accessories to go with the outfits like a hat or belt for not to much money...and Aldo for the shoes, some nice strappy numbers to be had.

Talking shoes, Clarkes have some nice little comfy but smart flats that are quite funky too.

Zara had some nice summer coats on sale but the dresses were more office wear than dinner wear.

I'll now go and hide in shame
Poof!!!

Quite possibly yes. Steinmart has a section at the front of the store (can't remember what it's called) with dressier/higher priced items. That being said, still far less $$ than Nordstrom's.
