My 2 (nearly 3) year old says things differently depending on whether she's talking to me or my wife. I'm very proud that she's been asking to watch the football every day for the last few weeks.

Hiya Kim.... It's bloody hot isn't it! I made the mistake of laying around the pool all day saturday, and just about got my face burnt off. I'm keeping out of it as much as possible now. It's a bit warmer than Newcastle sun

Got it cleared up by DH this am as I drove him to work. I said, " say w-a-t-e-r."' Wiseass sez W-a-t-e-r. Wisely noticing my frown, he said it as if it indeed rhymes with daughter in 2 syllables. So I said it the way I do. He said it sounds like how he says it, but I only use 1 syllable.

The world can now keep on turning.

When we lived in the UK, we used to watch This Old House and really noticed when a few of the guys would say water, power and shower. I suppose I never thought much about the distinctly different dialects in this country until you hear them in a different context.

OUCH!! yeah, way too hot for laying by water! What are you up too for the Holiday weekend? going to Patriots Point? I think we will probably just stay home, it looks like it's going to be too hot to be outside!

Missing the 'ale' yet?

Sorry for the OT post

Is it just me who has noticed this?
I had the fortune to go through officer training in the Royal Air Force back in the early-mid 1990s. We had an exchange officer from the US air force who taught us about military doctrine. On his first lecture he bounded in to the room and by way of introduction told us he was an ex B-52 navigator with the USAF and asked us what 'USAF' stood for.

Some bright spark answered right away with "United States Air Force, sir..." to which our US air force lecturer responded with "No, it stands for Usually Shoot At Friendlies!!"

That definitely got a thumbs up from us

Who says Yanks don't have a sense of humour... (spelt with a 'U'!)

I visited a friend's company in deepest Indiana last year, they have a "beer o'clock" on Friday afternoons. So I wander in while they're sitting around the conference table with their beers, he introduces me, and the first thing they say? "How do you pronounce aluminum?". Naturally, I corrected them with a grin
