A pepper, just the one, has finely started to turn yellow... Got loads of green ones, none turned colour last year.

It was the word 'pepper ' that caught my eye on the activity ticker.

I had one turn red once. Just once.

Given I have a vege area here in NZ, think I'll subscribe to this thread. Fascinating to read what you are growing and harvesting, whilst we are still in the throws of winter.

I just planted garlic.

That is why yellow, orange, and red bells peppers are usually more expensive then green bell peppers in the supermarket. Red peppers are the most nutritious.

I know it... Amused how green is a couple bucks a pound cheaper than the rest.

They're planted in a good spot though, plenty of sun... But they tend to stay green and then the weather turns before they get a chance it seems... Cold this morning for the first time in ages.

My veggie garden is on a time out. We ripped everything up as it would have died when went to the UK on vacation.
But we are getting ready to plant again in the next few weeks once it cools down a bit, possibly considering getting an additional 4x4 raised bed garden.
We definately need some more compost as it has sunk down a bit in its first use.

My choices here for August according to my planting schedule for my county :

Kale
Kohlradi (whatever the hell that is )
Lettuce (Leaf or Head)
Leek
Mustard
Onions
Parsnips
Peas
Radishes
Rutabagas (sweed)
Spinach
Squash
Turnips
Beets
Broccoli
Brussel Sprouts
Bok Choy ???
Cabbage
Carrots
Corn
Cucumbers
Endive

Seeing as i currently only have a 4x4 raised bed i'm going to start with a row of lettuce leafs. I've seen those in the mixed variety, it will be handy to go out and grab a handful for a super fresh salade or garnish and they just grow back in.

That's a good lot of vege

I'll be interested to see and/or read how that goes on as the weather cools for you.

Here in New Zealand, we've still got a few leeks in and the last of the potatoes are now out. We have 4 raised beds. Those are mostly cleared now and made ready for some spring plantings. Peas could still go in and I think onions.

I can start to maybe sow a few tomato seeds in our renovated greenhouse ready for later plantings. Perhaps I might try some water melon this year too.

I should be planting asparagus crowns as I love the stuff but can't find a permanent place for them. I also need to move the pear tree we planted last year. It is too shaded really.

What I'd love to be able to grow is english runner beans. But i just have tiny raised bed gardens.
Plus I've never heard of or seen anyone growing runner beans in the USA. I've heard of something simular called Oregon Lima Beans but i'm not sure if they are exactly the same.

Pork chops, mashed potatoes & runner beans + melted butter on top

Pole beans I believe they're called over here, though most people prefer the bush beans instead

Tomato plants, half seem to be dying back, but then again, loads still have new growth. Still have a few tomatoes, but a lot of green ones still but they are about the only thing still growing.

How about anyone else? Anything still doing well?

Just getting my 'winter' garden in order, carrots, onions, lettuce, radish - I'm also giving potatoes a go, but I can't seem to get potatoes right down here.

Still have sweet potatoes taking up much of my raised bed, those vines get everywhere.

Same here. Tomato plants have found new life and sprouted lots of healthy dark-green leaves as well as a few tiny green tomatoes that will probably not ripen. My lettuce bolted a week ago but I haven't had the heart to rip it out. Everything else is kaput.

No winter garden possible here. I'll divvy up and plant some bulbs & be happy looking forward to Spring....

My garden went in really late so as a result i'm only just starting to get tomatoes growing. i've 3 peppers growing, 2 of which have just started to turn red. Hopefully they turn before the bad weather appears.

Wow, if up north in Maine you're hoping to harvest tomatoes, maybe I shouldn't give up on mine. Today I looked carefully and one of my tomato plants actually has two new flowers blooming, hiding under some of its foliage. Optimism!

We didn't plant a garden this year, hopefully next year, but we have a lot of deer these days, so I need to set up my electric fence. In the absence of fruit and vegetables to steal, they destroyed our hostas!

I am still intending to harvest one of the deer sometime, maybe next year. They taste pretty good, all I need is a rifle or slug gun, and of course a permit. We have anything from five to a dozen wander across our back yard or through the vacant lot every evening at dusk.
