The last time I had to go through that air puffing device for airport security - it blew my top up!

We've always flown out before, but driving would allow us to see some of the West. I feel trying to shove a "western" trip in with a "family" trip wouldn't give us much time to do either very well, it would be kind of a poor compromise. I think it's about a 2 1/2 - 3day drive one way, maybe a little longer since we've got the kids.

Flying is 3hrs, I haven't checked into cost yet, but since we'll be driving a fullsize pickup (14mpg +/-) I'm not sure that the cost of plane tickets are an issue!

What do think? Pros or cons either way?

Haven't read all the posts ..... Drive ! you will love it

Head to I-90 and just head west, amazing sights including the Devils tower and others ..

That air puffing device isn't for airport security, that's just what they told you...

You could have worn your Marilyn Monroe wig and held your skirt down while showing your knickers................... before being carted off to be strip searched and manhandled by some fat security guard

Fly.

You'll probably end up killing one of your children otherwise or they will get you first (while you're sleeping).

Do some mini road trips while you are there.

9 and 7. And I think asking them what they prefer is a bad habit to get into!

If you have an in-car DVD player you might risk driving, otherwise I really would fly!

It is. However how much is it worth to you to be cooped up in a car for days with your lovely brats or 3 hours in a plane. I'd probably go for the plane myself but then I'm an aviation nut. I think when they become old enough for you to leave at home will be the time you and the missus will go on the road trip of your dreams. Be honest, will they actually be amazed at a cabin located in the wilderness.
