He *has* been prescient on a good number of things.
And he's been completely out to lunch on most things. Even on the economy, his pronouncements didn't start until the time the shit hit the fan. So much for being prescient.

He *has* been prescient on a good number of things.

His TV schtick is quite different from his radio show, which has a lot of satire and humor. There are many valid criticisms you can have of Beck, but don't just parrot Soros/mediamatters talking points.

* You know, a progressive friend of mine made similar accusations. Things that they "knew" Beck said, or had been attributed to him. You all take it as read that what you think know is the truth. But it isn't.
This was when that asshole activist sheriff in Arizona was blaming Beck et al for Giffords being shot. Violent right-wing rhetoric.
I'll ask again, and open it to everyone: please cite racist/violent quotes from Beck.

Have you ever actually listened to these guys? I'll wager none of you have.
I don't personally watch him, but it doesn't take more than 5 seconds to find apparently sourced quotes:

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Glenn_Beck

He says he wants to kill Michael Moore, probably fits as an example of violence.

The best thing about Glenn Beck are the impressions that John Stewart does of him.

As you're kind of mental yourself your defence of him doesn't really say much.

I'll bet as many lefties listen to Glenn than righties, but the lefties know its entertainment.

I believe most of the trouble he has gotten into is over this quote specifically "This president, I think, has exposed himself over and over again as a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture. ... I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem. " Which seems quite tame to me, compared with some of the other things he's known for saying.

Some other examples of offensive things this guy has said. And to answer your question, yes I absolutely have watched Glenn Beck on TV and he's painful to watch, however I admit I have never listened to his radio show - is he, in your opinion, more reasoned and moderate on that? One my good friends here in NY listens to him as much as possible and is a big fan, so admittedly my knowledge of the majority of his rhetoric may come second hand through her but its enough to know that I don't agree with his beliefs or the platform he's been given.
But 5 minutes on Google can give you all the video footage you need of him behaving dreadfully and saying incredibly offensive, and yes racist things. However you asked for quotes -

"Everything that is getting pushed through Congress, including this health care bill, are transforming America, and they are all driven by President Obama's thinking on one idea: reparations."

In 2006, Beck, then on CNN, interviewed Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to Congress. What did he say to Ellison?
"I have been nervous about this interview with you, because what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.'"

"Did I slip through a wormhole in the middle of the night and this looks like America? It's like the damn 'Planet of the Apes.'"

He also made headlines at one time for retweeting messages on Twitter from a White Nationalist organization.

Nothing against conservatives having their say or their airtime. However I believe the media needs to stop giving jobs to people who only serve to create extreme viewpoints, soundbites and headlines to further their own career and fortune. I'm of the opinion that few people who have entire shows based on opinion deserve the airtime they're given, on either side of the political spectrum. The reason being is that eventually it seems, both sides inevitably turn into complete asshats whose main goal seems to be shows (who could forget Becks "The Christmas Sweater" one man yuletide show?) and profitable bookdeals.

Lol at the Couric clip; he got truly pwned there. Beck should stick to being interviewed by people on his own intellectual level, i.e. other Fox News presenters.

I used to watch Beck, O'Reiley, and Hannity before the 2008 presidential campaign started where they would only spew out minor/moderate criticism for the left and no criticism for the right.

In fact at that time, many people said that O'Reiley was neither a conservative nor a liberal but just a loud mouthed obnoxious jerk. But as soon as the primary election got under way, he just couldn't help showing his true colors and became very difficult to watch.

Hannity went full steam in talking down to all his guests and Beck was held back by the CNN Headline News channel not letting him go totally ballistic.

However they all got very confused at that time beating up on Hillary and let Obama in the back door.

Now other than when I am changing channels (I don't watch them anymore unless I spot something interesting when changing channels), I do like Shepard Smith on that channel. I think Shepard Smith is one of the fairest most independent news anchors on any news channel.

John Stewart out did himself tonight doing his Glenn Beck impression. Stay up and watch the repeat, see it tomorrow afternoon as a repeat, or record it if you have a DVR. It's one you don't want to miss.
