GC on outbound flight??

GC on outbound flight??
Just put youngest PF on a flight all on her own this afternoon to go to Europe and for the first time we had to put in her GC details. First time for an outbound flight for any of us PFs. At first I was on autopilot and just clicked no to GC thinking that they don't need that but then American would not give us boarding cards.... So I had to start again. Is this more ICE nonsense trying to catch illegal immigrants?

Maybe to make sure she would be able to return to to USA if any issues with the flight or admission into her European destination? Or to maintain arrival/departure record for i-94 (or similar)?

Re: GC on outbound flight??
Back in the days when I was a GC holder when boarding passes were issued at the airport, I certainly remember being asked at least once for my GC on an outbound flight when they failed to find an I-94 in my UK passport. So it wouldn't surprise me that they are trying to tighten up the matching up of departing passengers' I-94's.

It's due to Advanced Passenger Information rules airlines have to abide by, they are required to provide relevant info to the relevant authorities on both international arrivals and departures, so I would imagine asking for GC info is because of this.
Last time I flew from the US the airline would not let me check in online or at a kiosk because I was on a US Passport and had no return ticket back to the US, the system didn't have an option for me to provide both be passport and Canadian PR card info, so anytime I fly back home from the US, an agent has to check me to verify my PR card info.
My wife of course can check in online no problem having a Canadian passport and all.
