i am on facebook. but i didnt know there were expat groups.

I play parking wars with all the family and constantly looking for new streets to park on if anyone is interested in letting me be their friend lol.

And i play bingo every day. I get my five cards a day and it keeps me quiet for about an hour. Oh the little pleasures in life..

www.meetup.com is another ...um... meet up site.
We found a San Francisco group and they were not a bad bunch of people.
They had all transported the drinking culture abroad seamlessly! ;-)

Someone on here set up a BE expat face book group a while back...I can't remember the thread title though, but you might find that and the link :)

Oh and speaking of FB...anyone else think the new layout is a steaming bag of shite?

Is it the thread that was in the MBTTUK forum...set up by an expat in Canada I think?

Mainly use mine for keeping in contact with family, although for some reason I recently seemed to run into a few people I went to school with. Always up for adding a few more people to my friends on there, so if anybody wants to just let me know by sending me a PM.

I Love facebook. have little time for endless repetitive expat questions (even tough I'm currently amongst the struggling - but it's complicated). I love facebook chat, the photo album stuff and the updates.

Great way to keep in touch (pm me if you want to be friends!!)

I'm completely unfamiliar with Facebook! Is it really young like MySpace (I skipped that one) or does it cover a bit more of everyone? Maybe I'll have to poke around ...

MsElui Sep 13th 2008 2:34 am

Re: Facebook

its a lot different to myspace - which i hate - its way to young for me. For me its a way to keep in touch with friends - share photos with them and see their photos, get reminders when its their birthday, find old friends, etc Its a lot easier to keep in touch with whats happening in their lives if you can see their one line status updates and can comment on it - than sitting down writing a letter or email that just doesnt ever seem to happen.

what's the actual name of this "official" BE facebook group?

Re: Facebook

I Love Facebook!!

I'm a total addict, not so much for the game playing quiz taking stuff, but more for catching up with old friends and the like. I've got people on there that I've not seen since primary school and its great to see what they've been up to - Plus we've managed to arrange a high school reunion on it which would have been much harder if Facebook wasnt around!

I must admit though, I'm a total profile whore.... I love looking at peoples photo's and stuff!!

dont think there is an 'official' one as such.

People just set them up as they go along. so far ive seen the BE-USA one, a 'British Expats' one (seems to be mainly dingos), a MMBTUK one (from the moving back to the uk forum on here) etc etc.

ps anyone who sends me an invite on facebbok so i can invite them - please either pm me or include your BE board name at the same time as im always wary of random invites from strange people lol!

it seems you have to be a friend of the person already to be able to invite them to the group. Once they are your friend then go to the BE-USA (or whatever group) page and the invite option is one of the ones on the top right. It brings up a list of all your friends and you just click on the ones you want to invite, then press the invite button. Its helpful if you post their screen name at the same time in the wall posts if you know it as we still have several waifs and strays that we havnt tied to a boardname.

Good Luck with the visa...when do you "plan" to move to San Fran? I've never been there but I've heard it's great...you must be very excited:)

Once you get past all the rubbish games, it's quite handy...best bit is being reminded when someone has a birthday.

But it's a good way of keeping up with friends and family, got loads of old school mates and uni mates on there and it's good to see at a glance where they are or anything fun they are up to as we're all pretty rubbish with keeping in contact at a regular basis.

The market section ain't to bad either, like craigslist, for finding/flogging stuff and jobs.

Also joining some of the groups are handy for networking.
