Extra baggage or sending luggage ahead?

Extra baggage or sending luggage ahead?
Going back to UK in Feb from Montreal and just wondering which in people's experiences worked out cheaper/easier?
Any recommendations for companies to ship extra luggage?
Thanks in advance!

How do you mean 'extra luggage'? If it's only a few extra cases I would check with the airline and pay the extra baggage fees. If it's more than that someone will probably come along shortly and help you out...as quite a few have returned from Canada. Good luck.

you can send as much as you like as excess baggage, there are companies which specialise in this, its very quick and reasonable - we sent 13 large cartons (one had a bike in it) for about $1000. it took 5 days door to door.

Worth a try.
I think we'll be doing the first luggage one it's door to door, and when we get to UK I know the car boot won't fit much excess for us. we had four suitcases and 4 people (plus a couple of small backpacks) in Mums car last year and it was a real squash.

We think we will have 5 cases in all (plus three cats!) I did a quote on excess baggage and wasn't overly impressed... I think it may just be cheaper to book extra bags with our airline. I was hoping I could have sent some cases of summer clothes to my parents before we left but it's probably not worth it.
I am going to be so broke by the end of all this it's crazy!

Try air freight - it can be cheaper overall and you can have it delivered to your door. Although it sounds the same as excess baggage it does not leave you as a hostage to the airline if you present extra cases on departure.

You could check out uship too to receive quotes http://www.uship.com . It's a division of eBay. I've used merchants from this service twice to move goods (household and personal) within the USA with absolutely no problems, but I've also rec'd competitive quotes for International shipments.

It's always been much cheaper in my experience to take it with your on the flight - just pay in advance - even better if you have good status with the airline.

Air Transat Cargo have cheap rates.. my son paid £150 for 138 kilo's. He called them and arranged in it advance, took it to the airport early in the morning then caught the same flight at lunchtime. He then waited 2 hours to collect it at Toronto. Their prices go down the more you are shipping and you do not have to be flying with them. http://www.airtransatcargo.com/en
Air Transat also do a scheme called Kiloflex - you pay "up front" and in advance for excess luggage (providing you are flying with them) and the cost is reduced by 30%. http://www.airtransat.ca/en/Info/kil...tType=voyageur

Air Transat do not fly from Montreal to the UK. Thanks anyway though.
We're just going to have to struggle on the day with our cases and cats!
