Re: Equifax data breach
So I went to the website for the claim to see if my info was impacted and it was, I don't have credit monitoring so I get free 4 years of it now...
Looking at my credit report online, doesn't appear anyone has gotten any credit in my name, but there is 1 inquiry from last August for Chevron, I certainly didn't apply for it though, but luckily no indication someone is getting credit in my name.
(someone does file taxes in my name from time to time, that is always a pain to deal with.)

My credit cards and Credit Karma bombard me with messages any time someone checks my credit so I took the money. Funnily enough out of the 5 people in m house I'm the only one in their database, I guess I'm the only one who has had their credit score checked in the last 10 years or so.

Turns out I was impacted by the data breech I regularly check my credit reports via credit karma, I’ve opted for the free credit monitoring.

Capital One data breach.
100 million affected in the US and 6 million in Canada.
The hacker was arrested by the FBI, Capital One identified the hack on July 19.
names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth affected, hacker didn't obtain any credit card numbers and over 99% of social security numbers were not compromised.
I have have a Capital One card in Canada, and used to have one in the US, wonder if I was affected by this one.

Take the money. Freeze your credit or at the very least add a fraud alert.

Well I’ve just been dealing with someone trying (and failing) to get cards using my data. It’s still a hassle, even if you have monitoring. I have a fraud alert on.

Re: Equifax data breach
I got an email from Capital One , my data was compromised in their data breach both in Canada and the US. I now have 2 years of credit monitoring in Canada which is of no real use since I already had it and they only provided it for Trans Union and not Equifax which is the other credit reporting agency here.
Wonder what company will be next to have my data stolen.
