For anyone who is missing a good English style cider and you come across anything by Griffin Cider Works, give it a try. Right now it's mostly in the Cleveland, Columbus and Akron areas but it should start getting wider distribution in the not too distant future. At the moment it's mostly on draft but also comes in 22oz bottles. It sounds like in the future there may be other options like 6 packs of bottles or 4 packs of cans. There are several different varieties and all are made from 100% Ohio apple juice, no concentrate, by a very passionate and nice English guy and all are very yummy!

Cider is dangerous here....some of it doesn't even have alcohol in itwhat's the point of that then? Can't we just call it "juice" and give it to the kids?

We had some good (proper!) ones at a beer festival last year, but rarely see them in the regular shops...need to go specialty to find them..Assume Griffin is the more adult oriented variety..will keep an eye out for it

I wondered about that when I saw huge jugs of "cider" in the fruit and veg section of my A&P. Had a wee look and was shocked to find NO BOOZE in it

What's the point in that. Had a nice cider in the wee bar near us, Angry Orchard I think it was. Ohio as well I think. Other than that it seems to be Magners or a weird look as if you have just asked for the blood of their firstborn

The BevMo stores around here stock a huge variety of ciders. A couple of years ago they were selling maybe 4 or 5, now they have at least 30 different ones.

I was looking for Cider on day in Central Market and asked if they had any, the guy said "do you want hard or soft" You can imagine my face

Yeah, I've seen a few run of the mill ones around in HEB, Kroger etc, and occasionally Specs have something different, but very little out of the ordinary. We were at a country fair on the grounds of an orchard out Bandera way last year, and the nice lady behind the bar asked if I wanted adult or child cider.....took a second before I realized she was asking about required alcohol content rather than size!

Just a comment about most US ciders. They are either made from concentrate of semi-unknown sources and are back sweetened with high fructose corn syrup or other cheap sugar so they are more like alcopops. Angry Orchard does both, they are also a Boston Beer Company brand, IE Sam Adams cider. On one hand you have to thank the makers of the god awful stuff for getting a market share that quality stuff can move into. On the other hand it sucks that people are thinking that the dross is representative of a quality cider.

Whole foods has a great selection of hard ciders including some great ones from France I'd never heard of. Trader Joes has a lovely pear cider, yum...

My husband just makes cider, way cheaper and much better. Just some organic apple juice, sugar and yeast of choice, stir and let sit for a few weeks. SIL and husband had a competition recently, SIL added pomegranate juice and Husband added tart cherrry juice. Both excellent.

No site, but really good cider, only found in the MetroWest area though. Bit pricey, about $15 a bottle, but it is very good.

Seems like there are plenty of hard ciders in the stores these days, Wegmans has the best selection locally, including the student staple of Scrumpy
