His friends are just running through their injuries. I really don't get that mindset.

A lot of people ramp up their mileage way too quickly. Since a lot of injuries don't make their presence felt immediately, it is really easy to over do it. Running 5ks is really good - way more than most people. I've run a couple of half marathons - plenty for me unless I somehow get to the stage where I'd be fast enough to do a marathon in ~3.5 hours. I don't see any point in suffering on the street for 5 hours or more.

Can't remember if you have a smartphone?

I've been using Walkmeter and it's very good with minimal ads in the free version.

I'll have to take a look at it, I do walk a lot on my work day's and would be interested to see just how much I actually do walk...

Hey Hotscot, where do you hike if you don't mind me asking? I'm always looking for new places.

I bought an annual pass for all the CA State Parks as I travel a lot.

But this is nearby, so it's good for a nice 5 mile hike of moderate difficulty.
Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve SNR

Silent on weekdays too. It's getting too hot during the day so I'm going to have to go in the morning or later afternoon.

Also nearby

Saddleback Butte SP
Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation-Parks-Full List of Parks-Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park1
Devil's Punchbowl

Thank you!!! Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve looks beautiful.
We go early too - to avoid the peeps. May see you there... I'm the one with the "Scotland" baseball cap (I'm not allowed to wear my Scotland t-shirt anymore).

I look like I'm homeless. Wife hates it:)

(I don't like to throw stuff away if I can still use it.)

Yess! Saw the surgeon yesterday and he cleared me for going back to the gym to do my classes. I love bodypump so I'll need to start carefully but I am so grateful that I can go. Just as the bikinis are getting into the shops! I hate Yoga but the chiropractor I've been going to see thinks it will be a good idea for me so I don't get all my muscles sore again.

One of the reasons I was so upset about spilling bleach on my jeans the other day was that I have put on weight since the summer and all winter I have managed with 2 pairs of jeans and various tops. I loathe being overweight and refuse to buy "fat " clothes. My self-image is a healthy UK size 10-12 and if I even have to look at 14-16 it depresses me.

BTW did you know that a BMI of 27 for women is the ideal one for longevity? (ref from Prof Lustig's book, Fat chance) Bit crappy then that this is "overweight" in medical terms.

Congrats on getting the thumbs up for gym classes. I keep telling myself I want to try yoga. I do Pilates, not so much enjoy it as see its merits for core work etc.

Does anyone juice (nutribullet or smoothies)? So many of my friends are into it. Doesn't appeal to me. I am attempting to cut out tea and coffee. Couldn't understand why we didn't have many teabags left earlier this week so I did a tally yesterday - 16 cups of tea and 2 coffees! That can't be good for me and it was a pretty regular day I reckon.

I'm a big fan of yoga - it really helps to keep the joints moving. I also find that if I do a class in the morning, I feel more energised but if I do it in the evening, often the same set of poses, I sleep much better!

oh Pilates...
a couple of years ago I was doing loads of running and cycling, I had never been fitter but then "core muscles" started being mentioned by the coach so I went along to a pilates class. Being fit and strong I decided I could easily do the slightly harder exercises. OMG I couldn't move without pain for a week. That class found muscles I didn't know existed. I've been frightened of going back ever since. Give me a 10mile run anyday....

I thought tea was beneficial?

Even if I had to reduce I wouldn't cut anything I enjoy...life's too short..

Juicing is a waste of good vegetables and works out expensive as you are throwing away all the fibre. If you like and eat vegetables then juicing is crazy but if you don't like them, then at least it is a way to get the good stuff out of them. I have a smoothie every day (nutribullet) with Shakeology in it with kale, parsley and a banana. Delicious - it is all the nutrients for the day then have a healthy dinner in the evening.

LOL PF. The sun is finally out and I should be outside but that seems like too much effort! Wish this blanket of depression would finally lift. Time for a walk with a sketch book I think. Then maybe I might think about running today ....or tomorrow.

Hi JJMB, I know it looks lovely outside, so I'mabout to hit the garden.

my son had a small thing removed from his lip yesterday which needed a couple of stitches. He's at home in bed.....thank god he will never have to give birth!

So as the weather is perfect here today, I decided to go the local lake (reservoir), kill 2 birds with one, sketch then run. I normally run on concrete paths locally and the lake is crushed granite. My husband loves it but I found it was like treading through treacle, so pace was even slower than normal and in the end, after a 1¼ miles I walked. Which surface do you like to run on? Also I always wonder if I should say run as that implies some sort of speed whereas I moved slightly above my normal walking speed. I probably should say a shuffle walk LOL.
