Deported Brit arrested for swimming across Detroit river to illegally enter USA.

This is madness why would a 56 year old want to risk his life like this. And why bother after the ten year ban is up when he can reapply to enter the country legally and find a job/sponsor to do so. Also would it not make more sense to do the swim straight away ten years ago. I guess he really must not have wanted Johnson as PM hey?

Presumably he is a Deplorable and wanted to live in he land of Trump.
Unless there is something you know not mentioned in this story then just not being subject to a ban does not mean he would ever get a visa.
More interesting is how he got into Canada, IS and Canada share information.

Certainly easier ways he could have crossed the border other than swimming across a river in winter.
Northern border seems to be seeing an uptick in illegal crossings, saw one article today where illegal crossings into Maine are up 400%, seems Mexicans who can fly to Canada and then try to cross the northern border, safer for them to do so and apparently cheaper too.

Re: Deported Brit arrested for swimming across Detroit river to illegally enter
I am sure there are but why re-enter the country illegally after the ten year ban has expired why not do that after being deported ten years ago. He had options to attempt legal return and years to work on achieve legal status. And besides his friends likely english soccer fans in Chicago (he was deported from there) would have moved on with life since ten years gone by and illegal immigration is a young man's game and he is 56 years old
Is there more information on this guy?

Any one wanting to come here bad enough to swim the Detroit River in winter should be given a special issue green card.

How about an E2 business or an EB5 business even if that is possible for deported person. He had years to pursue immigration options for himself he could have sought employment for himself in a company that could transfer him when the time came got an open uni degree to pursue a possible H1B application instead at the age of 56 he swims across a detroit river in the middle of december committing illegal entry to a country who will almost surely never do amnesty for illegals.

Yes according to a detroit news site. It was 9 or so years after Christopher Sagajllo was deported so he was still subject for a few more months to the 10 year ban from the 10 year ban. I wonder if perhaps instead of fearing Johnson being PM he feared Corbyn.

It turns out this guy is a resident of Canada and was seeking only to deliver books to people in Detroit. Does make a bit more sense I suppose.

Swimming across a river to deliver books makes sense????

You are absolutely right, I don't get out much at all! However, having read other posts by the originator of that comment . . . I'm not at all convinced sarcasm was involved.

If they were deliveries, once declared, I wonder if duty has to be paid on those books
