Dealing With Dementia
I am sure that the story is much more complex and multi-dimensional than portrayed here -

Very sad. I don't think the article says how they eventually identified him?

Here's a much fuller explanation of the story, and how the mystery was solved.

This fits in with the British perception of America. He was well cared for in the nursing home in England, but looks unkempt and much thinner in the care home in CA! Comments on the original article were typical too, "Britain, well known abroad as a soft touch for free healthcare. Will we never learn?" (Etc)

Very sad. I'm glad he was treated well by the British police / nurses / etc.

My wife doesn't want to watch it but I will anyway.
Thinking about it, when someone dies in the US, they almost inevitably are recorded on the social security death register, so their SS benefit ceases. Could that be why his wife and son flew him to Britain to dump him, so they could go on to collect his SS for years to come? Just a thought...

Why Britain?
From Los Angeles, it would have been easier and cheaper to dump him in Canada.
His accent would have been less conspicuous there.

Re: Dealing With Dementia
I just watched the Panorama programme about this. Very interesting, except insofar as they played up all the standard BBC angles in this type of story - trying to get the interview with the son who obviously wasn't going to be interviewed, and the fact that dad was well cared for in Britain but sent to a very poor quality nursing home where he was badly treated when sent back to LA.
Apparently the wife and son went on a European holiday after dumping him, so that probably is the reason they chose the UK to dump him.
