Cutting the grass
Aaaaagh, bloody American lawn mower! I have been trying to start our petrol lawn mower for ages. My husband is deployed so cutting the grass is my job, I can't pull that bloody cord fast or hard enough to get it started. So I went in the shed and found our lovely British hover mower, that glides gracefully along with the push of a little finger. So can I just buy a converter plug and just try and use it.

Re: Cutting the grass
You should research the power issues. It might not be 110-220v, which would mean you would need not only a plug convertor (3->2) but also a step up transformer.
But before we go there, a couple of questions about your gas mower: 1) is there a little rubber 'ball' or something in the front of the mower? You might need to 'prime' the mower before you start it by pushing that 3 times (to push a little gas into the system before you pull the cord. 2) Is there a 'safety' catch? Usually a bar on the handle that has to be 'squeezed' next to the handle (you have to hold it the whole time you are mowing). This is a safety shutoff in case your mower falls out of your hands while you are mowing it stops running. Sometimes people forget this when they are trying to start the mower. 3) Is there some kid in the neighborhood who you can ask for help giving it a pull? If 1&2 are not working, then it might need someone to give it a really good yank (or service). |

Re: Cutting the grass
Hi
Well I have just given up and am going to get my next door naighbours kid to do it. Thank you everyone for your help. Sorry to be a grumpy pants. I have a load of guests coming Sunday so I wanted it done before then. Oh well. |
Re: Cutting the grass
I say this tongue in cheek, Lawn Service. I know what you are saying, been there done that but when the neighbour came with a leaflet after witnessing me struggle, I took it. Don't do anything to harm yourself i.e. using a UK hover mower or trying to get the other one going. My advice would be make sure that you are so obviously struggling that anyone will come to your rescue and it is honestly a great way to meet the neighbours.

Hi
My neighbours brother owns a lawn service business, I am going to see if I can get discount! No harm in asking. Anyway moved on from that and am currently steam cleaning the carpets while the baby sleeps! fun fun fun |
Re: Cutting the grass
Would you like me to send my 10 year old over to you? He does ours for free.... he actually BEGS to cut the grass he loves it that much.
Only condition would be that we send the other 5 up with him, and you have to keep them for... hmmmm lets see, the youngest is 4, so can we say 14 years? Come on, its a great deal - you never have to cut the grass again.... we'll even pay the air fare! ;) |

No there not, they have neighbor boys to do the work, or like our old house used to be. A 9 mths preggo brit who does it for exercise. I got an awful lot of honks from the cars going by  My dream is a vacation home near the beach with a cabana boy who cleans the pool wearing his shorts only and brings me drinks with umbrellas in. He can mow too. |
