You're still using their PC, their connection, power...blah de blah...I'm playing devils advocate here really as I try to use as much PC/Telephone/yap breaks as possible at work

For example, in order to make photocopies or use the phone or fax machine or mail a letter in our firm we have to place our 5 digit personal code plus the 11 digit number it is to be billed to in order to use any of the machines or to make a call outside of the local calling area. Therefore, any of the above is charged against our paychecks which it is why it is prudent to not give out our personal codes. If we bill to a client, the client can turn around and ask for specifics on any of the charges appearing on their bills.

As for smoking during office hours, we are entitled to two 10 minute breaks per day. I use one in the morning and one in the afternoon for my cigarette break.

Only if you are using their system to do your e-mailing during those off times. Otherwise bring your own laptop to the office or blackberry or whatever and have a go at it on that.

You have to enter a 16-digit code just to make a call out of the local area??? Good grief...I'll never complain about the company I work for ever again!

So anyone else have that happen? What do you think about it?

Where the missus works, they have key loggers to watch what you type and where you go online...so job hunting from work can be a bit interesting
A good few years ago my husband worked at a computer games company in Scotland. They were really worried that people would move to the competition which at the time was called Red Lemon. One of the staff had written some kind of programme that would pick up on words in emails, things like Red, Lemon, job, wages, that kind of thing.

I regularly mailed my husband lists of things I needed him to pick up from the shop on the way home from work, funnily enough I was always needing lemons, lemon curd, lemon meringue and red apples.

Obviously it's quite sad to admit to but I used to get a fair bit of pleasure knowing that little cretin was having to read my made up shopping lists.

Well at the mo, where the missus works, there allowed to browse the web and do whatever when on break, or between calls, but there's no way that they know what your doing is on that time or when actually working, and they block certain sites, fair enough, but they also blocked the gators site, somin' to do with the spyware, and a porn company apparently, but I think that's some florida uni thing? anyway, the missus had to check it out as someone was having issues with the deal...that was a major effort...
