Malt vinegar, no ketchup and no skin on the cod. Looks like Friday will be a Cracker Barrel Fish and Chips night.

Those chips have skins on. No self respecting English chippy would leave the skins on. (Although I do like the skins);)

Ahem.
He's Scottish.

And we had a lovely chat with another customer who waxed poetic about the Yorkshire Dales, where he has people, so there I was feeling all warm and fuzzy about you. :sneaky:
DH says it's the real deal, skins or no.

Yeah, we've got one right around the corner & the guy's from just around the corner from where DH lived. He fries in dripping & everything but it's just not That Good.

These ones are to die for. I'm sure he'll take you there next time you are in town (it's a little bit grotty but that's part of the charm, right?)

Hmm... that's what I thought. And they don't quite look greasy enough.

They were also a little on the thick side for chippy chips...but I didn't want to offend Mo.

OK, he's come in to defend his honor and Englishness.. that photo is wrong (old). Try this:

http://static1.px.yelpcdn.com/bphoto...unWlW2EvrufQ/l

The chips definitely had no skins, were VERY greasy (been paying the price this afternoon) and were not too thick. "Not where I come from anyway."

I am just the messenger. :)

If it helps, they don't serve booze?

Love fish and chips. Can get really good ones here on the Avenue because they are all Micks ;-) But the best I've ever ever had were just across the Can/Am border on the way into Nova Scotia. Made with halibut instead of cod.

But alas and aleck, no more fried foods for me and/or bread coatings.

JG how could you not like fish??????????? You and my sister are the same. When we were away last weekend, she asked if the restaurant we were going to had things other than fish for her to eat

It's the smell...I hate walking past the fish counters in supermarkets it makes me wretch. I also don't like getting bones in my mouth...I know they're only small but yuck. I'm the same with pips in fruit. :o

I made some lovely fish and chips the other week, with help from a couple of posts on the recipe thread. We had curry sauce with them, thanks to some Bisto granules I brought back from my last trip. :)

Of course, the biggest fillet of cod you can find round here is the equivalent of a small one in the UK, but that's OK 'cos you can only get tiny deep fat fryers anyway.

I agree with you on the bones. If I get a bone in my fish at a particular restaurant I will never order fish there again and will stick mainly to shell fish.

I don't own a deep fat fryer, I won't use a chip pan with LO in the house either.

I do have a good fish and chip shop near by, but they don't batter the fish, they bread it.

It just makes my day to call you all ***************************'s :p

 Can't say I blame you not wanting a chip pan in the house with LO, the fryer I have has a temp control thingamajig on it, so it can't get any hotter than max (or set on fire) My son would starve to death if I couldn't make his nuggets n chips

I have a deep fat fryer but I never use it in the house because of the smell...I use it out on the deck.

I hate batter...yuck all that grease. At least I can roll the chips on kitchen towel to get rid of the grease. I am very suspicious of anything that's chopped, minced, breaded or battered. I like to see exactly what I'm eating.

I pat the grease off everything too, on paper towels....the smell is a bit off putting, but I usually have mine next to the cooker and put the hood vent on.

Good idea though, using it outside, I may try that too;)
