And in the continuing saga of everlasting stupidity, I have now received the final replacement for the cards I carry. The tally.... (a) 6 cards with chip + no pin, (b) 1 card with chip + pin, (c) this, the final card received, just today.... no chip.

Whoa, that's a lot of cards. I have three ... the only one without a chip -- American Express

Ooh, I was just in a Trader Joes and it was turned on. Put my card in but it didn't ask for a signature or a PIN, what good is that? Ditto in Target.

Still not working for me in Walmart, crashes out when I say "no" to cash back.

No luck with it at Ocean State, Michaels, Toys R Us.

Target has been the only place it has worked...not have large purchases though, so no sig or pin yet.

I had the same experience at Trader Joes; at Whole Foods they have new Chip & Pin capable terminals but haven't enabled card insertion yet. Definitely a wtf?

I can't remember what the limit is but it existed before chips, something like $25 or less and you wouldn't need a signature (or pin now).

Just tapped mine at Save On, 7/11 and London Drugs. I hardly ever use the pin these days, pretty much everyone takes tap thing, no idea what the limit is, we never make purchases at a single point over 60-70.

And as of yesterday my local Whole Foods has even gone to the length of taping over the chip&pin insertion slot! I guess people expect a chip&pin terminal, you know, to allow use of chip&pin...

Several Lowes I have been into recently have non-functioning chip-card slots, but in truth the slots have been there for several years - the card reader units are old and battered. ..... I suspect that the chip-card slot will never be activated, and that, for Lowes, switching to chip-card technology is not going to happen until the card readers are replaced.

I have used chip and sign at several stores now. I am not sure if any of my cards are chip and PIN. My lowes store card doesn't have a chip, so yet to test my lowes.

It doesn't matter that your Lowes card doesn't have a chip, Lowes readers don't read chip-cards anyway.

I use my Chip card in Lowes (insert card, not swipe), ditto for Home Depot, Target and Walmart.

Sometimes asked for sig, sometimes not. I don't have a PIN, so couldn't supply it even if asked, but the readers are functional.
