We´re returning to the UK from Germany in May and are planning on driving over and using our German car for the first few months at least.
Been looking into the various ways of doing it, both over here and on the DVLA website.
Has anyone imported an EU car into the UK? Did you have any problems? Was it worth doing, or better to just get a UK car sorted straight away - insurance wise etc.
Have requested a letter from our insurance company to prove our no claims bonus, but can anyone recommend an insurance company who will insure people who have been out of the country for a while (13years in my case and I never owned a car in the UK before I left) or if we decide to register our german car and keep it there for a bit, a company that will insure LHD cars too. Have tried to have a quick look on GoCompare, but we can´t put in that its a LHD.
Any help, advice, tips much appreciated!

Hi Flybaby, although I have not imported a car into the UK, it is far easier and cheaper to do so than import a UK car into the Iberian countries as there is no registration tax, I would search the internet to see what a UK registered RHD version of what you currently own costs in the UK to see how it compares.
As for insurance you will be able to insure a LHD car quite easily, you just need to find a good broker (I'm told that Adrian Flux is good for LHD cars) or go direct to the insurance company, the problem with internet comparison sites is that they are geared towards UK registered RHD cars.

Thanks for the reply. I´ve been in touch with the Insurers Adrian Flux and they have been very helpful. Having looked into all the costs involved, its looking more likely that we´ll sell our car here and buy a RHD one. Less hassle!
