Anyway - the only place to get a bridie should be Stephen's, but I'll let you off if you cannot get to the Kingdom any time soon.

10 out of 10 for the Branston beans in the photo - definately worth twice the price of that Heinz shite.

Mrs tonrob's German. She'd definately like to see an improvement on the crappy "German" sections seen in supermarkets round here. The one in your photo looks nothing special, though...

That's right. But the cool thing is, it's just a generic grocery store in the middle of freaking nowhere. That's a huuuuuge improvement over the "ethnic" foods isles that used to carry 14 different kinds of Mexican beans and sauces.
Actually, German stuff appears mixed in with the "normal" groceries nowadays more often, too. German beer, mineral water, red cabbage, chocolate, it's all over the shelves now.
Still, for some things I have to drive to Dallas to Kuby's on Snyder Plaza.

I just found this place http://globalfoodsmarket.com/index.p...tpage&Itemid=1 while googling around for food in St. Louis. Shouldn't google when I'm hungry.

Unfortunately the increase in German beer brands available in the US comes as part of the continuation of the rolling program of global domination from those bastards at InBev.

See here for list of brands swallowed up already by this vile behemoth:

Have her find a German Butcher. That's where I get all the German products that I and my mother grew up on. Nothing like the best for the dining room table.

There is German butcher/deli in Hartford,CT (about half an hour away) - we've not been yet. If you scour all our local supermarkets (and there are many) then between them you can usually find most of what you want, although the downside is that we actually fought our way round 10 bloody shops searching for Knoedel on Xmas Eve... (3 hours later and still empty-handed).

FFS! That's insane.

Looking forward to getting back to California and all it's microbrews.

Scotland has a decent microbrew scene these days too, but not a patch on the left coast.

While there is still a healthy market for smaller-scale brewers I'm concerned about the future of medium-sized regional brewers (many of whom have been around for hundreds of years) that are put under pressure by companies like InBev.

bacon, bacon, bacon..........

the tragedy of living somewhere where you get wonderful avocados, but rubbish bacon- thus rendering the creation of the perfect sandwich both a delight and a horror.

how like life.....
