Hi Folks,
I had been living in the US for 16 months now, moving back soon and my son was born but the C2 application section 8 says
"Countersignature. THIS SECTION MUST BE
COMPLETED BY THE COUNTERSIGNATORY"
If you do not know a British national or other Commonwealth
citizen locally with those qualifications, a citizen of the
country in which you are residing may complete and sign
the form, provided he/she has a similar standing in that
country has known you for two years and the Consul
considers his/her signature to be acceptable.
this is impossible since i dont know many people hence my time in the US, is there another way other wise my son will be traveling with US passport in April, is this okay?
suggestions, has anyone had this problem before?

You have to get it signed by as close as you can get. If it's not 2 years then it's not 2 years. So long as it is someone reputable enough then it's enough, ie a CPA or lawyer or doctor etc. My husband had his boss of a year sign ours as it was the nearest we had. It was fine.
I believe UK citizens are required to enter the country on their UK passports, you might have an issue at UK immigration if you are trying to bring a child in on a US passport with no visa.

Was your son born in the US? I think you have to register the birth with the British Embassy and get a consular Birth Certificate before you can apply for a British Passport for him. Hopefully JAJ will be along to clarify this.

Not necessary to obtain a passport. Many people will tell you that it's worth getting the certificate, especially if you plan on returning to the UK permanently, but I'm not sure how long after the birth you can do it.
Basically it's a copy of the birth certificate that is entered into the UK records so that if the child ever loses his American one he can get a copy from the UK rather than having to apply for it in the US. Pretty much all of the expat parents except me have got it!

Most of the parents consider it a necessity. I am definitely in the minority not having it, but I didn't have the cash at the time and I didn't see the need (and still don't in my case but I can see why others might find it practical to have).
