Default Bugs and beasties?

No one told me Texas was going to be like Jurasic Park. I had agreed to move before I realised what the bugs (venomous spiders)(and snakes)were like!
A seven foot alligator was sighted in my neighbourhood bayou today.
Luckily the worst thing causing me problems just now are mozzies and dirt dobbers - at least thats what I know they are now. I thought they were another nasty type of wasp.
What are the worst bugs or beasties you have encountered since being in the US?

I have tons of snakes every year, but they're harmless black ones. I've had foxes and groundhogs and raccoons and opossums deer, but probably the scariest (apart from my psychotic neighbor who shoots empty milk jugs with a pistol) was a bobcat hanging out in the back yard. That was a bit disconcerting.

Havig a bear hooting near the barn is always interesting.

Yeh we get BWS's here too, they are everywhere, you can spot them from their webs which are very distinctive. we have been lucky so far, we co-exist and we tend to leave each other alone!

When we first moved over here, we rented a house before we bought this one. About a few weeks before we moved into our house (it was summer) I had the front door open (with a heavy screen door in place) all of a sudden there was a swarm of something (had no idea at first) and they were on the screen door, crawling under the screen door getting in - turns out they were flying ants. OMG I've never seen so many bugs in my life.....called the owners of the house and they came down and fought them off.

We've got brown recluses and black widows here which made me get a big bottle of Ortho, so far though only sprayed the bedroom, really need to get around to doing the rest of the house.

Worst thing I've encountered so far was when the wife and I went for a walk and were about to start walking a trail when we saw a rattle snake, suddenly I wasn't so keen on leaving the pavement and walking through leaves and sticks etc.
