Not forgetting the 'apache' drivers aswell. Why is it that, we in Britain (Media etc) dont sing the praises of our armed services, like the US do. I know it's their 'job' but a little more recognition would, no doubt be appreciated.

Sorry to hear the Marine was already dead. The Royal Marines do try to take care of there own. I hope they destroyed the Taleban position and sent a few hundred Taleban to there paradise.

If any UK or US service people visit this Forum, Good Luck to all of you!!

And to do it on the outside of an Apache, scarey shit.

I could say something about the lack of Helicopters for the troops in Afghanistan, but I won't.

Similar incident happened about a year ago in Afghanistan only with a much worse outcome for the US Navy Seals. Their rescue helo was downed with 8 Seals aboard and I think the 4 man recon team they were rescuing bought it aswell, was the worst single combat loss for the SEALs since the Vietnam War. Maybe that puts this incident into perspective.

But, they didn't strap themselves to the outside of a Helicopter to be flown right back into the thick of it did they????

This was an incredible act of bravery by those that did, and we're talking about Brits here!!

No.. they were strapped to the inside (different Helo obviously) ..my point was not only was it down to elite training but also a small percentage of fortune to only sustain one fatality..but also to reinforce what Gruff said about having the right tools for the right job. The SEAL's had Chinooks getting them in and out and the UK forces had to make do with kit from Chad Valley.

Agreed...absolute bravery but it pisses me off that our boys had to strap themselves to the outside of a helo instead of INSIDE one. ****ing A right its bravery...but its also s situation that shouldn't have to happen. It boils down to the old "Lions led by Donkeys".

Jim.
I read that. Very brave.
I listen to the sad excuse for "talk " radio here and I have always felt really p**sed off that there is very little recognition here for the fact that UK troops are there with the US troops. Unless we do something wrong and then it seems to be reported.

But we're talking about Brits... balls of steel are the norm. Now, if this were done by French troops, then it would be news indeed!!

(PS- a Hearty Huuuyaaaaa to the Brit troops...well done chaps!!)

Admiration and respect for the lads who tried to save their pal and heartfelt condolences for the family.

It amazes me how these brave men continue to serve in the armed forces when they get no support or get supplied with the equipment they so desperatly need to survive.
