This thread has prompted me to get off my ass today and take down the Halloween decorations.

The winter I lived in Edmonton when they went up there was no snow and the temps were above 0C. When it came time to take them down the temps stayed in the -15 to -35C range with several feet of snow, and lots of ice.

I certainly wasn't going up ladders in that cold and ice, easier and safer to wait til spring.

Most in my area there had the lights up by Halloween, but just not on to avoid doing it in below freezing temps and several feet of snow.

First off I am a Yank, originally from the Midwest- not the south.

I have 3 main issues with AL:

1- The heat in the summer. We do not have a pool, and 95 degrees f + 95% humidity every day from mid May to mid September gets tiresome. It is opposite of what I am used to; in the north from Nov- April you go from heated house, to heated car, to heated office, to heated mall and back to heated house...literally doing very little outside due to the cold. Here, you go from Air Conditioned house to AC car... etc, doing little outside. Granted- it is nice when it is 70 degrees in March or December, and the Spring here with all the azaleas etc are wonderful...just too short.
2- Religious Fundementalisim; This is the buckle of the bible belt and you are looked at as evil, or a freak if you do not attend Baptist Church every Sunday, and center your entire life around Church, Church friends, bible study, etc. We are not Church people, and folks here do not understand how you can believe in God, if you do not attend church. That being said, most here are Christians only in name- they will stab you in the back, cheat on their wives, steal you blind.... They are Christians only from 10 am-12 on Sundays if that.
3- (and this will get me in trouble from the PC crowd) I am tired of being surrounded by a bunch of apathetic if not outright hostile black folks and incompetant white trash. Most everywhere you go- Supermarket, McDonalds, WalMart, Resturants, work...you are treated like you don't exist by those working there. No "Please, thank you, may I help you...' from the majority. We have met many blacks who are wonderful people however they are usually as sick as we are of 60% of their own race...no motivation to do anything, just complaining about everything and shouting "Racisim" at every possible chance. It got to be a joke at work- any discipline administered at work (for shoddy work, not doing ones job, goofing off, attendance etc) was immediately met with a cry of Racisim. Hell, I don't give a damn if a worker is pink, purple or polka dot...a good worker is a good worker regardless of color, and worthless lazy workers also come in all colors- but if you are black you get preferential treatment, just to safeguard against EEOC complaints...resulting in a plethora of lazy worthless f**kers working everywhere.
