Default Bird Flu

The European Commission is to discuss emergency protective measures after a highly contagious strain of bird flu was discovered at a poultry farm in the Netherlands.

The Dutch government said the strain, H5N8, could potentially affect humans.

Meanwhile officials in the UK have confirmed at least one case of bird flu in Yorkshire, but insisted the risk to public health was "very low".

BBC News - Bird flu: EU urgent meeting after Netherlands outbreak

It should be about time for American politicians to panic and scare the US public.

So did almost all Brits.

Total deaths in the UK to date from vCJD: 177,

deaths in the last three years: 1,

peak deaths: 28, in 2000,

last year there were more than 10 in a year: 2003

It's an utter fiasco, given that deaths of tens or hundreds of thousands were predicted!

And I still can't give blood because of it.

I'm sure they will but the next time you return from the UK or the Netherlands, don't be surprised if the TSA asks you to bend over so they can stick something up your butt.

My family are farmers in Yorkshire, about 10 miles as the crow flies (which in this case is important!) from the duck farm!! They have hens and sell eggs from the farm. I suppose I should have called home today and checked whether they were on 'lock-down'

I remember the Foot & Mouth fiasco well
