I am itching as Im reading all these posts!......I dont like anything that flys at you, bees, wasps, moths, flies etc etc. I freak out, scream then run. :p. Actually, to be honest I just hate bugs fullstop especially beetles.

He only got worried when the bite began to visibly wriggle a few days after he got back. Not being the sort to run to the doctors every time he felt under the weather, he poked a knife into the now rather large boil on his shoulder and produced a large white grub/larva/maggot of some description. He said he's not going back into the woods either and preferred it in Iraq where the low humidity meant no mosquitoes!

OMFG why did I sit reading this for my tea break  ~~~ where's my smelling salt's~~~

I had a tick about a year ago and couldn't get him out so I grabbed some bug spray and sprayed my head. That didn't really work because I was kind of coughing from all the smells and whatnot, so I went into the shower in the hopes of drowning him (and to wash the area with soap--damn lyme disease). Unfortunately, the only thing the shower did was turn the bug spray into a liquid and drip down my face into my mouth, again, a near death situation.

I finally called the wife who came over with a tweezers and yanked him out.

Bastards.

p.s. do not follow my initial method for tick removal unless you want to die.

No doubt, he was very lucky. They happened to be driving through the middle of nowhere Wyoming when he felt the effects of the bite (fever, dizzyness) coming on and they were able to get to a (relatively) nearby hospital for treatment.
