I'm looking for a proxy to get me a "UK" connection since it's locked to UK only.
The LINK to IPLAYER is http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayerbeta/ - still have to register !!

If BE could provide that as part of a premium package I would sign up.

There's a petition to the PM to complain about this - expats are allowed.

I've never had success trying to get a UK proxy to work in other contexts where the BBC were streaming content (e.g. Match of the Day). A correspondent on my blog suggested that buying a VPN would be the route to take. Anyone any experience with that?

Well, should work as the VPN would provide your web connection proxy once tunneled in, but it still comes down to finding a VPN provider. Corporations have them for employees, but I am not aware of anyone (yet) providing this for individuals.

Does a UK proxy exist - that you can plug into the setings in Internet Explorer? Someone sent me a Newcastle University webpage with a link to set up a proxy through Internet Explorer, but I couldn;t get it to work.

I've tried a bunch of different things too with no success. I think the BBC are too good at sniffing us out. It's ridiculous if you think about it. Here we are, Brits who want to do is watch some BBC content, which we would happily pay for, and they do everything they can to stop us getting access to it. :curse:

This gave me the idea of trying through my work VPN as we have VPN sites across the world I can connect to. Not sure why but when connected to the UK VPN site it still said I was outside the UK and could not download anything - maybe I can find someone in the UK IT department to install it onto a server there that I can remote desktop directly onto (not sure that anyone would do that though so I'll sound it out on my next trip over).

Seems Slashdot has a somewhat sceptical thread on the future if the iPlayer. As some of the comments there note, street protests regarding an internet media player is, well, unusual. And imho rather British

tried it through google translator?
works for a lot of stuff, but wouldn't have a clue on this as I can't be arsed.
