Default BBC iplayer version 2

Hi all

I was in UK for Christmas and saw a message on the BBC iPlayer page that version 2 will need to be installed from Feb 8th (I think that was the date). I tried installing it while I was in UK and it didn't work. It seemed to install but I couldn't download any programs. So I uninstalled it...

Anyone else tried it? Anyone successfully downloaded a program? Any help, as always, gratefully received.

I'm going to give it a try in the next couple of days.

Did you un-install the old version first? I saw some 'incompatibility' warning messages out there.

The BBC are making it very difficult lately to access iPlayer outside the UK....

The only way I managed in the past was by setting up a second router as a VPN.
Seemed to work ok. but dont bother anymore what with all the available online services.

Something along these lines.

https://support.hidemyass.com/hc/en-...t-two-routers-

Then one router has a US address and one a UK.

Use the UK address for iplayer ITV and Channel 4

Looks like this version 2 is for the iPlayer downloads app and not (yet) the VOD website.

I just installed IPlayer Downloads Manager app on a Win 10 laptop that did not previously have it installed. It says that this version is V2.3.0

Then I downloaded a program in HD, no problem.

Download Manager would now appear to be multi-window?

I'll now move on to upgrading the entertainment Win PC, and also the Android tablet...

---

All done. Other Win PC upgraded from version 1.14.2, downloading stuff now.

Android tablet done as well. Can't download, but thinking about it, I never could. I only use it for streaming as a backup when I'm away from the usual machine.

Yep.. Just reinstalled here too .. No problems. Rarely use the downloader these days though. We used to have streaming issues (resolved now) which made it more useful.

I think I know why you no longer have streaming issues, they moved in with me...

I find the potential stuttering annoying, so have developed a routine for managing the downloads.

You running a VPN there, or using a DNS service? Our VPN does a good job with downloads, but for streaming it's too slow and DNS is a far better solution for that.

Or..

We sent you our streaming issues.

I'm using VPN over ADSL. Should have been fibered by now, but that's running several years late, which is pretty unusual for this place.

I use satellite for the main set-up, and that works fine except during very heavy storms.

I'm waiting for the house move to see what the next batch of challenges will be, but I'm already considering looking at DNS, so thanks for the tip.

Thanks for all the replies - I did uninstall the previous version and as I was in the UK at the time, I didn't need any VPN or IP spoofing. I even uninstalled old version, rebooted, run ccleaner, installed - didn't work! Maybe the version has changed again, actually just checked - the version I downloaded was 2.2, maybe they fixed the problem.......

Becks_r, this may be a long shot but which browser are you using when you go off to the BBC website? I saw some reports out there hinting at problems when using Chrome. I'm using Firefox for mine.

Just a thought.

Iplayer buffers badly for me, on chrome. I use the bbc downloads program a fair bit. Curious to try another browser now.

I use a mix of Chrome, IE and Edge. I don't see a lot of difference really. Sometimes it seems one works better than another but I don't pay much attention. Mostly it's ok.

I tried it with Firefox. I am catching up on a few programs before I try the install again, I am hoping the latest version will be ok as it seems ok for all of you....
