Costco bacon is Danish bacon and is the closest I've found to the proper stuff.
and it's fairly cheap too. It is "smoked" bacon but isn't too strong and isn't horribly seet and icky like the US smoked bacon.

I found "country ham" in my local Kroger-owned grocery last weekend, and it is a better approximation to proper bacon than American streaky bacon, but I called in at another grocery in the same chain this morning, and they didn't seem to stock it.

I got County ham from our local HEB a couple of time and agreed very much like real bacon. Unfortunately they stop stocking it and I haven't found it since

If you have a nearby Waffle House, they have it on the menu, it comes in a great hunking slice, nearly as big as a plate! .... It is usually on the "steaks" part of the menu.
