" Firstly, is she knocking at your door with her hand out?"
Yes she was testifying to congress about her dire problem of not being able to afford a condom or monthly pill ($9 monthly perscription).
Why the hell shouldn't birth control be covered?
It is free, go to the already establsihed programs for poor people not weathly Georgtown Law Students. Those programs exist for those in need, she is not in "need" but only an activist.
This secondary health stuff is smoke and mirriors just like viagra. Does anyone know if that is part pf Georgetown's health plan? Facts would help vs. just bloviating.... Which many here do.
She did admit in her "testimony" she was on scholarship, so no bills there.
OBTW IT IS A PRIVATE UNIVERSITY....... not public or state school. She knew the rules when she went.

Aye, though if I'm willing to travel I can find a pub but it's not worth the hangover anymore to be honest. I might crack open a Guinness tonight though if the ba goes to sleep early enough to make it worthwhile ...

The only reason something like that is not brought up is because everybody would think you are a real ditto head but the argument is the same. The far right likes to divide people by using "insane" arguments that many buy into because of their religious or other beliefs. That is where the real class warfare is going on.

To those of you who think Limbaugh was right, even thoug he 'chose the wrong words' I've saved your lazy arses the trouble of finding the testimony Ms Fluke gave to Congress.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-me...nd-womens-hea/
Read it. I dare you.
Then comment.
Or not. It's a free country, sort of, for the moment.
Unless you're deemed to not be competent to testify on women's health issues because your, well, a woman, as well as perhaps an activist.
In the mean time I'll be watching out for Colbert's next appalling slur... For he IS an entertainer...

The problem is that it is not about paying for contraceptives since that will save only a few cents on everybody's insurance policy whether is is paid by the insurance or not. If it is about whether insurance companies should cover something, why not go after "hip replacement surgery" or "open heart surgery". That will save a lot of money and since many of the young won't need that surgery for many years, why should all those young people have to pay for something they don't need?

I do not think the government should dictate what should be covered in private insurance policies. The market will screen those that are not wanted by consumers. The current admin waives these things for those businesses that support them, yet in this case the business (university/Catholic Church) does not. Many waivers for the 2014 Health Care law are in place. It is intellectually dishonest to not admit that both sides have this same baggage. The testimony she presented was skewed, just as was the republican led testimony. If you can call all the wtinesses, then you get your own desired endstate.

I have no idea what sort of health coverage is "not wanted by consumers" - perhaps you could provide examples. On the other hand, I can think of many, many health services in the US that are "wanted by consumers" and that insurance will not cover because the actuaries have determined that it's not good business. And this, of course, is why the commercial model of health care is fatally flawed.
Government's job is to help distribute the goods of society where "the market" will not. Choice over conception is fairly clearly a public good - look at the consequences of accidental conception.
To follow your argument, the government should not force private citizens to fund the armed forces, or pave roads, or build schools. We all pay into those regardless of "market forces" or our private wills. Corporations pay tax for all sorts of things, and they support those items too. Should they not?
