Our pocket money used to go up by thruppence with every birthday

When holidays approached we had a chart on the inside of the door to the cupboard under the stairs where we could note the extra chores we did to earn extra spending money.

They weren't really extra but they were a bit more often and without reluctance.

Curiously, the brass threepenny bit was minted in parallel with the silver equivalent from 1937 to 1945, though unsurprisingly, each year considerably more brass coins were minted than silver ones.
