Don't come to Santa Fe if you like big cities, nightlife, greenery, or white picket fences. And yes, the art galleries can get tiresome. Particularly when they take space that could be occupied by something useful.

We live close too New Hope,PA and it is indeed pretty. The Delaware river separates it from Lambertville,NJ and a 10 minute walk over a bridge takes you from one state to another.
I love going there because it is a fantastic people watch! NJ allows civil unions so the gay population is much more apparent and as such wine bars, restaurants are quite interesting. There are many, many junk shops..oops Antique shoppes and quirky little stores but for your own sanity, if you do visit leave anyone under the age of 18 at home.

I'm surprised there weren't any towns from Cape Cod and Islands, MA on the list. Not sure about Flagstaff, AZ being "pretty" either.
