I used my ex MIL for advise on brands, by avoiding everything she suggested.

Melly, if you want a great place for product reviews before you buy, go to Epinions as your resource. Otherwise let us know what you're in the market for. I'm sure we all have an opinion.

We've just gave up (rellies have dried up sending over our fav Kenco ) and have bit the bullet and now just grind up the coffee beans and use our Krups coffee maker......does a good job. As for tea, we found a Sunbeam tea maker and hubs just puts in two Tetley tea bags and then we have a pot of tea, pretty good actually.

Best of luck!

What's that stuff for the dishwasher that is used in the UK that you cant get over here? Some kind of additive or something... I remember some talk about it a while back.

I hope this was helpful...

It is a very exciting time, embrace it and enjoy!

On the subject of electric kettles, I'm on my 3rd one in 2 years....If this one packs up I'm gonna get a stove top version!
Yep, that was the first applience wifey and I couldn't find.

We ended up getting a stove-top one and we have a Poland Springs water cooler with a 'hot' tap which is enough for her cups of tea.

Mother-in-law gave me a one-person Mr Coffee maker, which feeds my caffeine addiction.

I guess electric kettles just aren't as popular here (since tea isn't that big and nobody drinks that disgusting instant coffee we Brits gulp down.)

washing powder - Tide (don't go cheap, cheap fades as you know)
dryer sheets - Bounce (I've tried off market brands, this does the best for me)
dish soap - Dawn or Joy
dishwasher - Electrasol (cheaper than Cascade but just as good), Jet Dry for your rinse aid

What kind of surfaces do you have in your bathroom, meaning the material (ceramic, porcelain, tile...)

LOL... you're thinking of dishwasher salt.

Don't bother asking for it, Melly. They'll look at you like you're from Mars.

We just got one of those coffee pod machines - "Philips Senseo" makes a wicked Cappuccino.....

In our house:

laundry detergent - Tide
dish soap - Dawn
diswasher detergent - Cascade, Sunlight, Electra-Sol, whatever we have a coupon for
dryer sheets- Bounce
surface cleaners - Windex, Tilex, SoftScrub depending on the surface
toilet bowl cleaner - Clorox, Lysol, depending on coupon
other stuff like waxed paper, foil, freezer bags, toothpaste, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. - whatever's on sale or whatever we have coupons for.

What kind of surfaces do you have in your bathroom, meaning the material (ceramic, porcelain, tile...)
washing powder- I would suggest a powder or liquid with no perfume or dyes unless you want to encourage allergies and itching. I can't give you a specific example because I have an HE washing machine/washer.

Dishsoap (e.g. Fairy Liquid)- regular Palmolive (it's green). It's most effective and a little goes a long way.

Dishwasher soap- I use Cascade (green bottle) or Costco's own brand.

Kitchen cleaner- I use an old-fashioned powder called "Bon Ami". It comes in a can. It's wonderful on counters and stainless steel. It doesn't scratch surfaces. I also use Windex (blue liquid) on surfaces (not plastic).

Plastic wrap (aka clingfilm)- I like Saran Wrap the best. It's in a red box.

I can recommend a microfiber cloth for use a kitchen rag. I can put mine in the washing machine to give it a good clean. It's definitely worth the money.

Here's a page that you might find useful.
