Re: 4th of July Celebrations
either:
1. hang out at the local ER and see how many f@ckwits come in with firework injuries....
2. Gargle my throat in preparation for my answer "Pity you can't say the same thing about Vietnam or Iraq" when I hear "We kicked your ass".
other than that..... Fireworks!!!

the in-laws will be coming this year, so i don't think i'll be able to find a lake to jump into, pissed arse drunk...
supposed to be shite weather here anyway, so probably hiding inside...be nice if the fireworks the next town over aren't cancelled, they probably will be though, but they usually have a good show on.

I'll be celebrating the same way I do for any holiday. By getting drunk and eating loads of bad food.

Re: 4th of July Celebrations
I'll be taking my little boy to visit some friends for his first Fourth of July party, then we're off to a parade in Milwaukee. I fully plan on camping it up as I missed the Pride march this year. I shall also be drinking a fairly copious amount I'm no longer breastfeeding! Yaaaaaaayyyyy!!
My OH and I also got engaged five years ago this Fourth. Oh, the irony of a Brit and a Yank hooking up on Independence Day...

DIL who is still breastfeeding (well pumping actually) drinks a nonalcoholic beer every other day, it helps stimulate the milk.

The first couple of years here the USA I tried to get into the swing of things ...the local firework display out at the local lake is fine ...but the constant jibes got to me after a bit ...the wife became nervous and knowing that I once destroyed a local in 2 headbutts took action .. we both agreed its best I maintain a low profile and drink beer at home ...plus when the 4'th is midweek the poor yanks are only given one day off ...its great celebrating knowing your up again at 4.30am

Where in the states are you?
I've never had any of these Jibes and I'm the kind of person who will speak to everyone in the neighborhood as well so they've had plenty of chance.
This is a 'nice' area though, lots of police and firemen, many consider themselves Irish, and plenty of people who's family came after WW2..wonder if it makes a difference.

Re: 4th of July Celebrations
My grandfather was a small town Doctor and Grandma was his nurse...and my Mom would help out during busy times. We were never allowed anything more than sparklers (stuck in the ground) due to her seeing so many hands//fingers blown off or burned on the 4th. Evidently alchohol and explosives was not a good mixture back then either.
