Default It was 27 years ago today

I think I'm probably Texan now

Life has certainly changed for us since the early days of 1989. Am I glad we stayed? Sometimes no, but mostly yes.

It' been an adventure!

If we are still all "here" in another 27 years I'll be sure to post!

That's if I can see well enough and if my fingers still manage to type and if my brain is not demented, but yeah I'll put it on my to do list

Congratulations. Never been to Texas myself beyond a plane stop at Houston, though keep meaning to do South by Southwest. Friend of mine was born and raised in Austin and he's pretty much the coolest person I know. This isn't meant to offend but I don't get how ex pats who are parachuted into these random places never try somewhere else, not as if the US is as tiny as the UK. I've only been here 10 years and lived in 3 different states, probably moving to Georgia next year so make that 4. Definitely wanna also live in Texas at some point

Not offended but first of all we weren't parachuted into Texas, we chose it for a reason. Then we stayed while our kids went through school, now we are staying until we retire. No reason to move and gradually over the years we have traveled to other states, we may have only visited but them but we have no reason to up and leave, we have steady jobs, a house and actually quite enjoy life here.

To be honest I had enough upheaval in the first couple of years of our US adventure that I am happy to just be comfortable with life as it is!

On your upcoming trike trip are you sticking to the back roads? That's what I like to do when not in a hurry. Freeways all look the same and everything of interest is missed.

Not everyone has the wanderlust. I know that I don't. I've only lived in NY for all of my life and the last 40 years in the very same rent stabilized apartment. Being dragged kicking and screaming to MS because I married a Canuck with wanderlust who has lived in all the provinces of Canada, 16 years in Germany, several years in California. My wanderlust is in travel not living in different locations.

Bear in mind that many expats are here on work visas and don't have the option of transferring to other cities/states. They go where their work sends them. If they aren't sponsored with a greencard, they are SOL.

You're lucky you have a spouse willing to dislodge her life and follow after you (that is if you are still married to your USC wife).

Its nice to have the options though, ain't it.

We stay off Freeways as much as we can as well.

Our trip, that has taken weeks to coordinate because of schedules etc now looks like it will be determined by weather! We have 3 alternative destinations. We leave early in the morning so I guess a decision is needed tonight!
