2016 Election
If the final true vote changes the result...it needs to be followed. Imagine the freak out if it wasn't. Democracy would surely be dead. This is the peril of calling elections before all votes are counted. I remember the history of the Dewey beats Truman headline.

What could possibly go wrong?

If the actual final count is a tie, what happens then?
It goes to the House for a vote - and Trump gets elected anyway.
A tie in electoral votes? The House chooses the President. Not necessarily one of the candidates. But likely Trump although some would like Ryan. It has actually happened twice as I recall.

Ryan's a climate change denier too, so screw him, but that would be ... interesting.
They do not have to choose either. Who knows. The Republican vote could split into Trump/Ryan situation leaving Dems to go Clinton. Not going to happen..but it is an interesting monkey wrench in the process.
Ok. Yes.
"unlike under the Electoral College systemwhere larger population equals more votes, each of the 50 states in the House gets exactly one vote when selecting the president."
Also..just for fun...the Senate elects the VP
