You can see her point, why would you name anything you eat that.

Although I also used to laugh at the silly American words, after a few months I found it fascinating. Probably becuase I worked with some people who likewise found the English words fascinating, especially phrases we use, 'swings and roundabouts' took some explaining.

I can't say spackle without laughing though, in fact i'm smurking just typing the word.
My wife had a hard time understanding why they were called Digestives as well .

However, as a fan of the books of Stephen Fry, I'd have been pissing myself at the point where it was said that they'd 'come across some biscuits from England . . .'

(I know in this case it was a woman, but I'm a sufferer of double entendre disease.)

Or maybe you couldn't care less? If you could care less then it opens up the possibility that you might have cared a lot?

Are we not all going to charter a plane back then to line the streets of London for the big occassion.

Why are so many Americans obsessed with our royal family?

Theories:

1) Because we don't have one.
2) They're not, but they don't know anything else when it comes to current events in England, hear your accent, and assume you MUST be following it with baited breath?
3) Other

Yes that happened to me - I was frantically trying to remember which one it was.

I had to hear all about how wonderful Diana was.

It's slightly larger than a tad, but smaller than a smidgen.

To be accurate: there are 3 tads in a jot, and 6.43535 jots in a smidgen (damn imperial to metric conversions)

Thought it was only spread worldwide to make sure the British expats got the news.

Hell, what do I know. I didn't watch either of the other weddings or divorces and not going to watch this one either.
