WA rural housing

Hey
New to this forum, and have found lots of interesting info. My husband, self and kids are moving out to WA on the 457 in January - I saw that there are already some people who are out there on this program. I was just wondering what the housing you were given was like?

Hello,
Im out on 457 and have kids.
We are in a large newish detached 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. Much bigger than UK houses, that we love.
Also has large garden with covered outdoor area, double workshop, double garage. Airconditioning in property.
Fridgefreezer, washer and outdoor table and chairs supplied if required.
Its a newish house on upmarket new estate in town. House prices on this estate are around $500K and up, so not a scruffy house. If anything Im on the best estate in town.
Some people get 3 bedroom detached house. If you have kids you will get a house. Most houses are 4 bed as standard here, although some 3.
Single people tend to get units. These are little houses (not detached) in a row.
However depends on town you are allocated, to what exactly you are allocated and age of property.
Houses can be owned by GEHA or GEHA leases from private landlords as in our case.
Ive lived in two towns and had two very good houses. No complaints from me.

Oops, noticed error on my old post Roamer has put above. My old post I said $400 instead it should say $200.
I meant to say we pay $200 per fortnight rent for large house but GEHA pay the landlord $400. So rent is half price if a GEHA (education) property.

You've really set my mind at ease - I'd visions of your typical UK council house with peeling paint and rotted window frames!
I've been lurking for a couple of weeks, and as others have said you have lots of great info. We were originally asked to go out in July 07, like you said, they told us we would be out in 6-8 weeks! Unfortunately i was 7 months pregnant, so had to put it on hold!
As a matter of interest, where are you based now?

You dont really pay 200 Oz dollars a fortnight for rent do you?
I thought that your previous post of 400 Oz dollars a fortnight was good.
That works out at roughly £50 per week

Yes, $200 is correct and thats for big property.
When we lived in smaller town further from Perth the rent was actually cheaper.
If your in a unit or smaller property it would be even cheaper. Eg think Units are very cheap if your a single or with no kids.
