I'm going into my 3rd year of a 4yr B.ed Kindy through to year 7.
It looks as though we will be heading back to the UK once I'm qualified.
How easy is it for Oz trained NQT to find work in the UK?
I have spoken to Aussie agencies that specialise in placing teachers in the UK but they seem interested in younger models and not mature folk like me (I'm only bloomin' 40!)
Any help would be appreciated.

It completely depends where you plan to go in the UK??
www.tes.co.uk/jobs has most jobs advertised and is updated on Fridays.
Good luck!

This specialises in specific areas of Uk you would want to get a job in.
DO you know where in the Uk you will be based?
Also if you register with teaching agencies in Uk you iwll get supply work easily then it will give you relevant experience for you to apply for a permanent position, but have to warn you, permanent positions are few and far between, even for experienced Uk trained teachers like myself and they are usually in difficult areas!
However, my quest is to come and teach in Australia, and so i have spoken to many agencies about getting transfers etc and many Australian teachers working in Uk. they all said it was easy to get a job in Uk especially supply work, but just needed to pay for CRB ( criminal check) supply agencies will require this for every agancy you work with. this costs about £40.
But once you are here, registered with supply agancies, you will have no problems!
Hope this helps?

Agencies are great for general advice and sometimes relocation assistance. Be persistent with them and spread your net wide. I found Timeplan and Select fairly good. There's also Protocol, Bluewave, Smart Teachers, Bluewave, Hays, ITN, TEachLondon, Global Teachers...and a few others. It costs nothing to register. Just do it and see who is best at getting back to you.
Concur with above: getting some supply work will help you gain insight into education system and etceteras. Some agencies will also line up longer term supply posts as well.
TBH, my biggest problem with UK was not lack of work, but the fact I needed a work permit to stay in the country (schools not so keen in sponsoring this). So as you (I think???) are married to a UK citizen, you shouldn't have too much of a problem! Good luck!

As ws said, it completely depends on where you are planning to go in the UK. The reality is, there really isn't a teacher shortage in the UK anymore, except in larger cities like London etc. Go on the tes.co.uk website and read the 'Supply' and 'Unemployed Teachers' forums and you'll see how dire it is in some places.
I've been teaching for the last 3 1/2 years in East London. They still do need teachers in this area, but having said that there is not the demand that there was a few years ago when I first came over. I was also 40 when I came over- my age did not seem to matter at all ! Don't know if they were just desperate back then or if it would matter now...
Also, be prepared... it all depends which school and class you get, but I've found that teaching over here is not a walk in the park! Generally speaking, the behaviour can be appalling and the workload can still be quite heavy (as said, all depends on the school and particular class you get). This is my last year to teach as I don't have QTS and I've decided not to get it as I've had enough!

Thanks guys for the help.
I'm not sure what area we will be moving back to. It will either be Yorkshire or the South West. I should imagine in both areas teaching posts will not be readily available as we want to live in a small town or village. So it looks like supply work will be the way to go.
What has concerned me is when I look for teaching jobs there are so many available....but for special needs, behavioural problems, re-integration, immigrant integration etc. That's a slight panic for me! What has gone on back there since I left a few years ago?
I am British and moved to Oz, initially with a view to living here permanently, but I'll be honest here...I can't hack it. To damn far away!
Anyway, thanks again for the help.

You get extra money for Literacy, numeracy, SENCO and of course management but this all depends on what the school is looking for.
I ahve worked in the south west, mainly devon doing supply and it was difficult to come by. but once my name had got aroubd the supply agencies and i had positive feedback from the schools, they ask for you again and you get work regularly.
But had to move to bristol for permanent work because small towns are very choosy about what they want and who they want- in my experience anyway!
Anyway good luck and have a good christmas. try those websites especially eteach.com, as you can search by area and this will give you general idea
