Best visa option???

Best visa option???
With other half going to have 12 months full time experience and being on list as in general shortage in Vic regional areas. What is best option to go for. We're aware that teaching is hard to break into so would 457 be the best bet as secure job on arrival (as far as I can work out) Or would some kind of PR visa be a better option?
What are the pros and cons of both, thanks in advance

Re: Best visa option???
If you are eligible and can get the points for a PR visa like a 175/176 then DEFINTIELY get a PR visa.
You have no restrictions on employment, where you live or what you do. There is a demand for supply teaching or you could do something else until a permanent teaching job comes up.
If you search the Immigration board, the Migration Agents always say this is the best option if you can get a PR visa.

Thought it was the same as WA, but isn't .
Very worried OH won't be able to find work as she's very much committed to teaching and loves her work. Not sure she'd want to do anything else or scrape a living on supply as have seen wages can be poor and seems to be lots fighting for limited chances of working supply!

If you apply for a 457 you will be placed in a school which might be very rural and/or you don't like the school/staff and you have to stay there for 2 yrs!!?
Anyone who is eligible for a PR visa would be completely mad to get a temporary visa!

Re: Best visa option???
We are on 457 and it works for us. We are in nice town and hubby has good school with no problems.
* If you come on the 457visa you can still apply for your own Permanent visa at any time even prior to arrival. I checked with migration agents.
They told me that we could apply at any time if we had enough points. You do not have to wait out the two years as specified by DET. DET also told us we could do this if we wanted. I checked with them and it does not affect your job/housing if you do your own PR.
** Once you work here 12months you can get extra 10points. So if your 10 points short you could apply after 12months here. Therefore getting PR a year earlier than waiting for DET.
So in theory you can come on 457 visa and then apply for your PR visa the same week if you want. This way you get the job/Housing and PR visa.

But if you are eligible for a PR visa, why wouldn't you just apply for that!?!?
If you arrive on a 457 and it doesn't work, you have to find another employer or a leave Australia!?

Re: Best visa option???
Yes, I agree permanent visa would be best option.
However thought Id post the above in case anyone was short of say 10 points.
Or was not in financial position to wait around in oz looking for a job.
Some teachers struggle to get a foot in the door when they first arrive.
457 does have some plus points, if you dont have enough points, dont have lots of cash to wait and find a job, or you simply nervous about arriving with no job and house with kids. That elusive 5 or 10 points can be made up with 12 month experience here.

Re: Best visa option???
I would have thought that the chances of getting a 457 would be pretty slim anyway, unless you had some kind of particular/specific skill to offer.
For 457, you're pretty much relying on the school to be so desperate that they are willing to hire and sponsor somebody for a visa without having met them or observed them teach.
It also means that you are tied to the sponsoring school, and are not free to move around if something better comes up. At least on the bush visa you can move about.

Think PR visa is best option but then stuck with no work for what could be quite a long time, don't think it'd make our move to Aus viable as will need to both be working within 6 months otherwise cash will run out
