Default Any part time teachers out there who got visas???

If I were to get a part time position in a school (actually employed by the school NOT supply) and I worked either every morning/afternoon OR 2 and a half days. How many hours would this be counted as?

I recently found out on another thread that a supply day is 6.5 hours just wondered if an actual teaching post would be the same or if part time teaching was classed as 20 hours.

Are there any part timers who successfully got a visa...just wanted to check before applying!

20 hours or more is classed as full time! So yes can get visa with just 20 hours a week. I belive for a full time teacher it's classed as 7 hours a day not 6.5!

Hey thanks for the quick response but that's not actually what I asked...maybe I waffled too much!!!

Let me say it again without waffling!

A part time teacher works how many hours per week?

If a part time teacher works either 2 and a half full days OR 5 half days, does this satisfy the 20 hours requirement?

Thanks

half day would be 3.5 hours so over 5 days or 2 full and one half day would be 17.5 hours. So not enough hours, need 3 days in total which would give 21 hours.

I feel that teachers are getting a raw deal when it comes to visas!! A teacher who is emplyed by a school works far more hours than a supply teacher who comes in and does her job, say for a day. The class teacher has oodles of extra curricular stuff to do and then planning and assessment! ALL in her 'spare time' It sucks! Therefore a part time teacher works FAR more than 17.5 hours I do know. Whereas, as a supply teacher I could say that that is probably the right amount of hours.

I'll stop ranting now coz I'm starting to waffle again!

Fully agree with what you say. But holiday time is taken into account for full time but not for casual, so swings and roundabouts

I did not have over 20 hours working 3 days a week on either a permanent contract or on supply.
If I remember rightly I got more hours supply teaching than contract.
It had my hours on my payslips - so no getting around it. Headteacher offered to write reference about contractual hours and hours worked - but made no difference to DIAC - ENDED UP HAVING TO WORK FULL TIME FOR A YEAR - BLOODY KILLED ME - BUT WORTH IT TO GET HERE.

What was worth all the struggle if you've not ended up with a job? What line of work are you in now?

Oh god yes it was worth it.
Hubby got a good job - so I work in a childrens centre with little uns a couple of days a week to suit my kids school hours.
Money is poor - but I enjoy it. Good laugh with the girls - no planning, no pressure!

Well as getting a teaching job is the priority can't be looking good for the tonnes of teachers heading off to Aus as their skills are in demand, though there seems to be little call for them in the work force. Is a worry

The market is being flooded with ex pat teachers in adelaide. Apparently there will be a shortage in 10 years time!!! That puts me at 51!!!!!
So what do we do in meantime?
There are a few jobs for high school teachers and if you want to live in the midlle of nowhere - theres a few as well.
No chance whatsoever of getting a job share!
