Looks like Telus here in Canada has decided against using Huawei for its 5G and going with Ericsson and Nokia.

Probably wise as who knows what the government will do. Would suck to choose Huawei and have the government ban them.

Another company bowing to pressure from the US - today there was a US senator telling UK PMs how the CCP is using Huawei to undermine the "special relationship". No evidence of course, just the same old blackmail tactics. There's a lot of money in 5G.

Bell has also chosen not to go with Huawei. So thats the big 3 although from what I understand Rogers never had plans to go with Huawei and their network is activated already.

Well if the Big 3 in Canada are ditching Huawei then might make The Canadian Govts decision easier but hey its China so who the hell knows what they (Cad Govt) will do. Seeing I don't have a cell phone I don't care that much about 5G. I mean some of us bought 4K TV's years ago but very few broadcasters have 4K programming. I am sure 5G has advantages but will it rock my world and have me rush out buying into it. I certainly know I won't be subscribing to an 8K TV.

5G, base stations every <80m or so, Due to the high number of RRUs required, Operators want to keep the site rentals down to peanut level.
Fibre where you never dreamed possible.

So with the USA, UK and Australia now banning Huawei 5g, what's it going to be for the remaining two five-eyes nations: Canada and New Zealand? Mixed messages coming out of those two countries but my money is on them following suit with the rest.

No reason for celebration, US bullies other nations into submission.... by claiming China might bully them.

Plus...
‘Geopolitical’ factors were behind the move, the company was told, with hints that the decision could be reversed in future

Do we have good reason to believe that China might bully them? And is that all it's about?

What it's about is the USA proxy trade war with China and their attempt to stem the loss of tech leadership.

UK security boffins will have been crawling all over Huawei gear, which is why the earlier decision was made. Now, despite bringing no, zero, zip, proof to the table, the threats to security cooperation and a possible trade deal with the USA have caused a volte-face.

Tight spot. Lost a lot of friends. Need a mafia godfather now. Got one, but wants something in return. And it isn't pretty.

Canada is in a tough spot, outright ban piss China off, don't ban piss the US off, lose-lose really for Canada, probably one reason they have kept delaying decisions and why the government likely is pressuring companies not to use Huawei.

If new evidence has been presented to HMG by the security services I sincerely doubt we'd know about it however given everything that's happened in the last few months I suspect it's stopped being about the potential for covert surveillance but rather relying on a hostile state for key parts of your CNI. I'd be interested to see whether China's involvement in the UK's new nuclear power stations will now go the same way.

So Huawei is suspect because the US wants us to believe they have installed super snooperscopes into their equipment..
Am I the only one who thinks that US equipment is any different?
