Believe it! At Uni, my specialism was behaviour modification - so to see examples of self-motivated goal setting.... which these seemed to be, followed by the immediate cessation of the behaviour, was fascinating.

Charlie, like many parrots, developed the self-plucking behaviour.... and I swear that from the way he looked at us before, during and after pulling a feather, he was making a point! - 50 grammes of attitude

Apparently they are effectively dinosaurs. They are definitely "other". It's not like getting to know a mammal at all.

Nice-looking bird.

Yes. All birds have differing characters and traits to each other.

Follow the albatross webcam throughout a season and you will see that clearly.

Oh that's heart-wrenching. Poor little Jenny.

It's the same with Syrian hamsters, they each had different personalities. I miss having a hamster. It seems silly to other people but I used to form a really close bond with mine.

Many fish too, smaller schooling fish not so much, but larger freshwater fish and lots of marine fish can and do have personalities, and some are quite interactive with the people they know and some species pair up and mate for life, and if one dies the other will look around the tank for it.

This upsets me greatly, far more than people if I'm honest. When our poodle had to be put down years ago, my Mum accused me of heing heartlessly silent. To tell the truth, I couldn't speak, if I'd opened my mouth I'd have cried like a baby, I was 30.

Don't feel so bad. Alongside Charlie, we had Pedro our Nethie house-rabbit (I posted his picture some time back). He was with us for 10 years and cost me a fortune as he had misaligned molars and had to have them cut every 2-3 months at £85 a throw. Not many people realise that rabbits are like horses - they bloat, but a rabbit can be dead within 24 hours if untreated.

Due to the dental problems, Pedro had this problem in spades and we almost lost him several times, but he had the heart of a lion. Then came the day that the vet's treatment and all our care didn't solve the issue - and he died in my arms. I felt every movement as he fought for life, but to no avail and all I could do was hold him close and comfort him. I hunted as a kid with my father, I have been with humans when they died, but the passing of this innocent soul broke me up completely. Now, years later, we still have his things in the house......and I'm 65!!

Thanks for that, but a case of time & place. I should have put it in the jokes thread.

+1

I just saw that DMG Media, owner of the Daily Mail, has captured the i newspaper......
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-50598506
The Rothermere reach extends to a newspaper that started as a sister-paper to The Independent. "We are committed to preserving its distinctive, high quality and politically independent editorial style.", Yeah, right.

On my online BPD group there is a little sub sections for various countries, but the Canadian section is the only one filled with people wanting treatment but can't obtain it due to cost, even the US section is more positive with far fewer posts from people frustrated they can't access treatment, but then most US health insurance in my experience covers mental health on par with any other health issue, where in Canada mental health is the step child of healthcare with limited options.

It's not like I am refusing treatment, its simply I cannot access it due to lack of MSP coverage for it and I cannot self pay.
