There's a gag about the Canadian Senate somewhere here, I'm sure.

The Outer Limits did an episode about something similar.

Sometimes. But for a lot of things you see a really cheap price in the US and they won't send it to Canada and when you find the same thing from an alternative seller that will ship to Canada it's either much more expensive and reasonable shipping costs or a reasonable price and very high shipping costs. It really looks like they have it stitched up when it comes to the total price.

It's done on purpose by manufacturers to increase sales, after all if something last decades they wont make as much $$, and I think overall quality of production is lower as well.

I find fans in particular to have a short life, I find they last around 3 years on average, at least in my experience with buying and using fans...

But we went through 3 kettles, 3 toasters and 2 pedestal fans in the 3 years we were there! 'Funny' how things with a one year warranty seem to last for one year and one day before conking out.

And if you do order form the US (Amazon and a few retailers excluded who include duty/tax at time of ordering) there is that unknown about taxes, duty, and broker fees, Canada Post broker fees I think are $10, but UPS/FedEx the broker fees can exceed the cost of the product.

Gawd. You've reminded me about the kettles now. Been through 3 .
Yes. I am not at all sure things are 'made to last' anymore which is poo as I really dislike throwaway waste. Perhaps some manufacturers are better than others with the quality of the parts used.. The washing machine is a Samsung.

Thank you lovely lady but they are LARGE Dorothy. We're trying really hard to tidy up the house and section . We kind of loss momentum during the dreadful noise & neighbours from hell years. The screens would have been good to replace some 35 year old netting and trellis at the side of the house. I was after that design as it reflects on some wallpaper indoors.

Oz Bunnings say they cannot ship so I've written to Matrix about this now. Surely the NZ importer could order in .

Having to waste a day. I have days where my body wont cooperate and I can't leave the house, its annoying as I wanted to go out and do stuff today.

Maybe tomorrow which I I just realized is Nov 13, and Nov 13 is never a good day.

Provincial health info on borderline says this "Medications are usually not effective for BPD." but then that is the only flipping thing the healthcare system will cover, but their own pamphlet states that. The pamphlet also goes on about seeking treatment, the suggestion, call a professional psychologist.

Just ticks me off the healthcare system fails so bad at complex mental disorders.

Went to the doc's today with the names of three prescriptions I needed renewing written on a card, very neatly, with dose details.

We talked about changing one of them or changing when taken and he decided to change it. Taken too close to a different pill it causes blood pressure drops. He asked if I still had supplies of that other pill and I said yes.

He gave me my slip which I saw had three prescriptions on it as expected, including the new one and off home I went via a small grocery shop.

I got home and discovered that among the three, he'd written the one I told him I still had and he didn't include one on my card that I don't have.

I called his secretary and explained, asking if the right one could be faxed to the pharmacy - something they used to do when a renewal only was needed, but don't anymore. She said it should be okay. I hope so.

And I'm not even mentioning that the "new one" that I looked up to make sure my drugplan covered it appears to be another name for an identical drug.

Be careful Bristol, with that level of disorganisation you might find you're taking female hormones or laxatives!

I think sometimes doctors are in too much of a hurry/have too many patients and only half listen....

My doctor wont fax prescription renewals either, never had a doctor that would, I always assumed they can't bill for a faxed prescription but if patient goes in they can. My current doctor will at least do 3 months, I had one doctor that required monthly visits for refills.

My doctors office is pretty disorganized they always get me mixed up with someone else with my name.

I pissed myself off today, forgot I had a lab test 12:45 and can't eat anything for 4 hour prior and forgot to set the alarm to get up early enough, so now I have to wait almost 4 hours to eat. (test takes an hour they say so be home around 2pm and its 10:15 so 4 hours from now til I can eat.)

Here is a new thing to me, my doc will respond to an e-mail request for a repeat/refill request, if it's "in-scope" then the following morning the prescription will be pinned on the entrance lobby board-wall, so pluck'n'go, no need to waste her time. Never seen this approach before, but if it frees docs up for doing what docs do best, it's a winner.

Totally agree with that, good system!

Was reminded again today how grateful I am for my GP. I asked her a few questions about meds and although I know she was more than capable of giving me the answer herself, she rang my pain specialist AND my surgeon, just to make sure that some changes she wanted to make were ok with them. It was a conference call so I got to participate too.
Old bugger scouse gets his partial age pension from the Oz government now, so the cost to me for 25 minutes of this outstanding GP's time is $5.75.

It's a good job it's not actually him doling out the meds (except for samples a few years ago that came in very handy)

Really, how many people can there be spelling it with that I missing?

My mate back in Bristol has described something like that. Why not go all the way and fax it to the pharmacy without the need for collection? Or, better still, have it done electronically.

And then have the pharmacist pop round and shove it down your throat so one doesn't even need to leave the house .
