Default The state of religion

"The pope has flown home after a roughing-up in Ireland. Just a few years ago it was unimaginable that a gay taoiseach would dare berate a visiting pontiff face-to-face about the “dark aspects” of Ireland’s history and “brutal crimes perpetrated by people within the Catholic church”.

Leo Varadkar’s magnificent assault eviscerated his country’s past cultural capture by the church. “The failures of both church and state and wider society created a bitter and broken heritage for so many, leaving a legacy of pain and suffering,” he said. “It is a history of sorrow and shame.” The sorrow is not just for victims of monstrous priestly abuse, but the abuse of an entire society in thrall to clerical oppression: lives crimped, warped and blighted, no escape from the church’s domination of everything. The best Irish literature breathes that pernicious incense. ..."

Another nail in the coffin. Or just more of the same?

A very good article. Nothing new there though. As the people who need to read it ,more than likely won't.

The Catholic church, which in-itself is a myth ,based on lies and the thirst for immense power,Sowed the seeds for its own doom way back at the time of the sack of Rome. The decadent ,immensely rich and immoral priests ,cardinals, bishops, etc (Right up to the Pope himself ) Feasted and fornicated ,performed lewd and lavicious acts etc Oblivious to any responsibilities outside the city walls. They made many mistakes, but the fatal one was to fail to pay their German mercenary army. This starving army eventually marched into the city and killed anyone they came across.especially the priests The Pope escaped with his life. Just. He was so horrified and frightened by what had happened that he forbade all priests etc to take part in any sexual activity from then on. They could also no longer marry or have children. The priests would be celibate. A stupid and unrealistic approach to the problem. Here we are ,hundreds of years down the line with the result, of that decision. Secrecy, cruelty, perversion, you name it. No surprise then

When something isn't right in the first place. This is what you get.
